THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWNSHIP OF MEDONTE
BY-LAW NUMBER 86-14
BEING A By-Law for establishing a system for the collection and
disposal of ashes, garbage and other refuse

WHEREAS section 210 (83) of the Municipal Act, Chapter 302,
R.S.O. 1980, authorizes Council to establish and maintain a system
for the colleci ton and disposal of ashes, garbage and other refuse.

NOW, THEREFORE Council of the Township of Medonte enacts as
follows:
1) That a system for the colleciton of ashes, garbage and other
refuse in the Police Village of Hillsdale be adopted by Council
as Schedule "A" to this By-Law
2) That a system for the disposal of ashes, garbage and other refuse
at the Township Waste Disposal Site be adopted by Council as
Schedule "B" to this By-Law
3) That any person who contravenes any of the provisions of this
By-Law shall upon conviction be liable to a fine of not more
than $2,000.00 exclusive of costs.

Garbage must be set out in accordance with the following conditions which form part of the contract between the
Garbage Con,ractor and the Township of Medonte.
The term "garbage" shall, without restricting the general meaning of garbage, also be construed to mean alJ rejected
abandoned or discarded household waste either animal or vegetable, aU combustible garbage such as paper,
carc.1boDrd, boots, shoes and other wearing appdI~I. and any ulher reCuse capable of being consumed by fire except
non-colJectable.
Non-Collectable Waste:
ShaJl mean any waste or mailer other than garbage and ashes shall include the following:
1. Manufacture's waste.
2. Oil soaked or gasoline spaked rags and any explosive or highly combustible material of any nature
whatsoever.
3, Broken plaster, lumber, shingles, or other waste or residue resulting from the construction, alteration,
repair, demolition or removal of any buildings or structures.
4. Sawdust and/or shavings.
5. Liquid waste.
6. Hay, straw or manure.
7. Carcass of any animal.
8. Live animals or' birds.
9. Stock of any wholesaler which shall be regarded as manufacturer's waste.
10, Any material which has become frozen to the receptacle and cannot be removed by shaking,
11. Discarded truck and automobile tires if monuted on a wheel.
Every receptacle used for the placing therein and disposal of garbage and old ashes shall be a metalJic or sanitary
plastic receptacle with proper handles and with the contents must not exceed sixty (60) pounds in weight. Every
receptacle shall at all times be provided with a proper cover, and the contents kept in a dry condition, and must not
be fiJled above the top level. Plastic garbage bags shall be deemed to be proper receptacles.
Refuse must be placed in proper garbage receptacles or disposable receptacles sufficiently strong to carry contents;
must not exceed six (6) in number for any ont:: pick-up. Receptacles musl not be larSJer than 1/2 cubic yard; must be
of such size and shape that they can be conveniently carried by one person and m'ust not weigh more than sixty
(60) pounds when filled. .
4. Empty carboard cartons, crates, etc., similar containers shall be knocked down flat, and securely tied in convenient
bundles. No bundle shalJ weigh more than sixty (60) pounds or have dimensions greater than three feel. Leaves
are to be placed in disposable plastic bags or garbage containers. Mattresses shall be rolled and bound.
5. Heavy pick-up items shall be collected during regular pick-ups or on ~ per trip basis at the discretion of the
contractor. The size weight and quantity of. collectible waste or heavy items shall be subject to the ability of the
contract to lift and load said items manually.

Ashes:
shall mean the residue of any household fuel after such fuel has been consumed by fire, all tins, bottles, glass, etc.,
lawn and garden cuttings and tree limbs cut in pieces not longer than three feet and tied in bundles shall be
considered as ashes. Garbage must be separated from ashes.
Garbage not set out for collection in accordance with the above regulations will not be collected in the future.

RULES REGARDING USE OF WASTE DISPOSAL SITE

1) Refuse will only be accepted from residents or propery owners
from the Township and those with contracts with the Township.
2) All refuse accepted at the site will be sorted and deposited in
the areas designated
I) Household garbage
2) Wood and brush
3) Scrap metal
4) Large appliances
3) The following items will not be accepted at the Waste Disposal Site
A) Car bodies
B) Engines
C) Fence wire
D) Tires mounted on rims
E) Commercial liquid waste
