THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWNSHIP OF MEDONTE
BY-LA W NUMBER 87-8
BEING a By-Law to implement a set of duties, responsibilities and
terms of employment.
WHEREAS Council feels it IS desirous to outline the specific duties
of certain members of the Roads Department

NOW, THEREFORE, Council of the Township of Medonte enacts
as follows:
1) That the Duties, responsibilities and terms of employment as
outlined in Schedule "A" attached hereto and forming part of
this By-Law for the position of Roads Superintendent are
hereby adopted by Council.

2) That the Duties, responsibilities and Terms of Employment as
outlined in Schedule liB" attached hereto and forming part of
this By-Law for the position of Roads Foreman are hereby
adopted by Council.
3) That this By-Law shall take affect from the date of its passing.

SCHEDULE "A" TO BY-LAW 87-8
DUTIES , RESPONSIBILInES AND TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
OF THE TOWNSHIP OF MEDONTE ROAD'S SUPERINTENDENT
1) To assist Council annually with the preparation of a Road's Budget and
to administer the budget as approved by Council.
2) To act as General Manager of the Road's Department and its employeees.

To set the work schedules for the road department employees and
oversee the work in conjunction with the Road's Foreman.
To act as a good will lias ion between Council and the ratepayers
and others in the day to day operation of the Road's Department.
To act as a lias ion between Council and the Ministry of Transportation
and Communications, other government departments, Engineers,
Consultants and suppliers of goods and services.

6) To perform all necessary inspections for the granting of driveway
entrances, and the granting of same and working with the Committee
of Adjustment on all applications which will require entrance permits.
7) To set up and maintain a schedule of regular inspection of all roads
for defects and evidence of non repair, and record such in a log
and to arrange all necessary road maintenance and repair.
8) The Road's Superintendent vacation shall be taken each calendar year
and shall not coincide with that of the Road's Foreman.
9) To follow up on complaints from Township Office, Council and ratepayers
via Memo system.
10) To report to Council at meeting of Council as required by himself or
Council.
11) To prepare reports as required and respond to written correspondence
using the Township Office Staff.
12) To set up and maintain a repair record for all machinery and make
recommendations to Council as to equipment replacement.
13) To see that a daily weather log is maintained with comments as
to local conditions.

14) To arrange for all maintenance required to Township equipment, whether
done by own crew or outside and to arrange for the delivery and or
pick up of parts.
1 5) And any other reasonable duty the Council requires performed from
time to time.
16) The Road's Foreman shall be notified of any abscence due to illness etc.
of the Road's Superintendent by telephone.

SCHEDULE "B" TO BY-lAW NUMBER 87-8
DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
OF THE TOWNSHIP-, OF MEDONTE ROAD FOREMAN
1) To work with and under the instructions of the road superintendent as
his assistant and at the same time acknowledging that he is a
working foreman and shall perform such duties and obligations of
the regular road crew employee of Medonte Township Road
Department when necessary and required.

To assist the road superintendent in the performance of his duties.
3) To carry out and perform the duties of the road superintendent in
his absence.
4) To keep the road superintendent fully informed of all activities and
the progress of all work performed by the road crew.

5) To work with and oversee the road crew.
6) To be responsible to the road superintendent for the performance
of the road crew.
7) To advise the road superintendent of any evidence that any member
of the road crew has consumed during working hours any alcoholic
beverage or prohibitive drugs.
8) To be responsible to the road superintendent as to the location of
all township road vehicles and equipment.
9) After working hours all callouts shall be arranged between the
Superintendent and Road Foreman.
10) The Road's Superintendent shall be notified by telephone of any
abscence of the Road's Foreman due to illness etc.
