Re: New Township Loao
Dear Henry:
September 24, 1993
At their September 20th meeting, the Joint Council of Oro-Medonte had
an opportunity to review the new logo submissions from your respective
History Committees.
After lengthy discussion and input from the Councils, it was suggested
that another option should maybe be considered. Although the
retaining of the name Oro-Medonte recognized the rich historic nature
of the Townships, the members were of the opinion that the new logo
should perhaps reflect a combination of the "past, present and
future". The sole use of symbols representing agriculture, may not be
as appropriate as we plan to prepare our local government well into
the 21st Century. The new Township provides many additional
opportunities for its residents, such as recreational activities
through its world renown ski resorts/facilities, and its waterfront
along the shores of Lake Simcoe and Bass Lake, which attracts
cottagers and boating, swimming and fishing enthusiasts. In addition,
i^:f3.'ustrial and commercial conn.nnentc are evident and actively being
pursued, mainly as a result of the recent construction of the Oro-
Barrie-Orillia Airport. Its economic viability will be vital and a
great challenge to future Councils of -the -day and its taxpayers.
Some discussion also took place respecting the abbreviated form for
amalgamation (amal.). Unfortunately, I do not believe there was any
resulting consensus on whether it should be there or not, or whether
the abbreviation Est. for established or Inc. for incorporated would
be more appropriate. They even discussed putting on bcch years that
the original Townships were incorporated. I do believe that the
majority of the members preferred the "rope" border without the black
shading.

I would be more than happy to discuss some of the ideas expressed
by the Council with you, or would invite you or the Committee to
talk with any member of the Joint Council in this regard. In any
event, they sincerely desired that the History Committee be
expressed their gratitude and appreciation for your efforts put
forth at this time, and it is hoped that the new suggestions and
ideas will assist your members in drafting a fourth option for
their consideration.
