Re: Amalgamation Township of Oro/Medonte
Submissions for New Name
Dear Mr. Neufeld:
The Joint Councils of Oro and Medonte along with a representative from
the Township of Orillia had a meeting on February 24, 1993, at which
time discussion took place regarding the naming of the new
municipality, subsequently the following resolution was adopted:
Moved by Martin, seconded by Mortson
Be it resolved that the Clerk's be directed to reconfirm with the
local public schools for submissions of a name for the new
municipality with a May 1st deadline, as well as corresponding
with the Oro and Medonte History Committees requesting same, and
further that these submissions be advertised in a Joint Oro-
Medonte Newsletter asking for comments and/or further
suggestions.
Carried.
Accordingly, the Oro History Committee is being asked to participate
in this process and submitting suggestions for a new name or names, by
May 1st, 1993. My colleague in Medonte will be communicating with the
newly formed Medonte History Committee, requesting their participation
as well. As you can see from the above resolution, it is the
intention of the Councils to advertise all submissions received to
date and asking for any comments or further suggestions from
residents.

I would like to also take this opportunity to inform the Committee
that preliminary 1993 Budget negotiations have provided for a
$2,000.00 expenditure on behalf of the History Committee. I am
confident that this amount will meet with Council's final approval at
the later part of this month.
Thank you for consideration of this request.
