MFFTING - January 18, 1990
The Township of 0ro Histcry Committee net this evening at the
Township of Oro administration Building in the Board Room, at
the call of the Chairperson. All members having been duly
notified by telephcne. The following members were present:
Loreen Lucas Henry Neufeld
Howard Campbell Earl Robertson
Welter Hutchinson Neil L.cNiven
Absent - Bernice Hickling
Opening The meeting was opened at 8100 p.m. by the Chairperson.
inutes The Linutes of the last regular meeting held on
October 17, 1989 which had been circulated to all
members and read this evening were on notion of
Howard Campbell and Earl Robertson adopted as read,
irinted and received. :..ction carried
Business arising from the Linutes - of October 17, 1989.
(a) Report re: Chein of Office by Loreen Lucas - advising
that she and How-rd Cemlbell had attended a melting of
Council to present the recommendations of this Committee,
end that th' matorinl h'd been forwarded to Dominion
Regalia by the Township.
(b) Report re: names of Hills of Oro by names used in general.
';alter Hutchinson edvised th-t the nines of Hills h d
not been placed cn maps as yet since some more research
is still required, also thet it is rnticpated that a
legend will be prepared and only numbers marked on a map.
It a, peers that there will be some difficulty 1.1ecing
the :.ills in the right spots of the lots.
(c) Report re: F1eque in Memory of Lcrian :eeith (t.uthor)
- not much further information is a.vaileble at this time.
It was moved by Neil i.cNiven and seconded by Walter Hutchinson
that the verbal reports be accepted as satisfactory end a
letter be forwarded to James LictL ews end Company Ltd. along
with the propcsed wording to obtain an estimated price, also
an estir,eted length of time required to prepare the Flaque.

There appeared to be none other than what had been
rreeented end considered under - Business arising
from the Linutes of October 18, 1989.
Corresrondence and Communications
The becretery presented a letter from the Administrator/Clerk
fort :riling co: y of letter Oriliia Heritage Centre Board and
letter forwarding Council's resolution regarding the request
from the Orillia Heritsge Centre Board requesting Council to
dlpoint a contact person for the Brerd and to serve on
Committee(s) of the Board. Resolution refers the letter to
the Township of Oro History Committee for consideration Add

and recommendation. Also copy of letter forwarding Council's
resolution to the Orillia Heritage Centre Board, and advising
that further correspondence will be forwarded once the History
Committee has given consideration to)( the request and rude
recommendations to Council.
After consideration the following action was taken by the
r'istcry Committee:
It was moved by Earl Robertson and seconded by Howard Campbell
that the Chairperson of the History Committee contact iiiarlene
iawdsley and Joanna Y.cEwen as to their interest and willingness
to serve as the Township of Oro contact person and act on
Committees of the Orillia Heritage Centre Board as the rep.resentat t;
tfeOfo rn the Township of Oro.

(a) co; y of letter forwarded to Sinclair as directed
at the last regular meeting.
(IA Letter from rs. Frederick r"rilllam Rook as correspondence
to Howard Cari-be11 in response to his forwarding of a cony
of "Kith 'n' Kin", expressing her ar reciation for the
assistance received in forwarding acoiy the book to assist
her in her research.
It was moved by Neil i:-.c''iven and seconded by ;,'alter Hutcinson
that the correspondence and Communications as received and
forty rded, as presented, be filed for necessary reference.
New Business
Howard Cami bell advised that :..rs. Lary Haskell of i.:idland
would appreciate any photos of prints showing land bordering
Lake Simcoe and lr.nds backing same. lary P.askell is an
Executive of the Simcoe County Historical Society.
"On motion of Earl Robertson end Neil Iv:cNiven that it be left
in the rands of How:rd Campbell to assist her with pictures
or slides should she wish_ tc come to the Township Office with
Howard Can:4bell to review any pictures or slides on hand."
Howard Campbell also advised that he had been approached by
Janet Currie with rest. ect to preparing a talk and illustration
with respect to development of Schools from Log Schools to more
modern buildin4s and eventually tc School 2irea Schools.

a:nd undertake the project to prepare a develo:ment of Schools
from: Log Schools to modern Area Schools':
"On motion of alter Hutchinson and Earl Robertson that the
Township of Oro History Committee recommend to Council that the
two German Lachine Guns presently in the Town Hall Basement be
kept cut of view rnd further suggest that they be properly
mounted inside the Centoph 'once and pros erly coated for protection:

There being no further business it was moved by Walter
Hutchinson and seconded by Earl Robertson that the meeting
adjourn to meet again at the call of the Chairperson.
