HISTORY COMMITTEE MEETING
January 8, 1996
The Township of Oro-Medonte History Committee met this evening at the
Township Administration Building in the Committee Room, in accordance
with the resolution passed to meet on the scond Wednesday of each month,
since the December meeting had been cancelled due to weather conditions
members of the Committee were notified by telephone.
The following members were present:

The meeting was opened by the Chairman at 7:35 p.m.
The Minutes of the last regular meeting held on November 13,
1995 were on motion of Jadeen Henderson and Walter Hutchinson
adopted as printed and received.
Business arising from the Minutes - meeting of November 13, 1995;
None brought forward.
Correspondence and Communications:
(a) Presented a notice from the Ontario Historical Society re: Seminar
to be held on Friday Feb. 16th and Feb. 17th. "The Simcoe Legacy:
The Life and Times of Yonge Street (the longest street in the world-
200 years ago the Queen's Rangers, commanded by John Graves Simcoe,
finished the construction of Yonge Street, from York to Lake Simcoe.
Later Yonge Street to Fenetanguishene(Military Road and Battle-
ground). The Slidepresentation at the Seminar to show the contin-
uation of Yonge Street from Lake Simcoe to the Manitoba Border.
Notice also included registration form for attendance - fee of
$30.CO for Members and $ 50.00 for non members. As well as a
membership form. No recommendation for anyone to attend.
(b) Also presented letter from Studio 2 - TV Ontario: expressing
appreciation of Video forwarded by the Chairman - Coldwater
area. Video to be used0Fromo - entitled " We know Coldwater"
(c) Also presented copy of 'News and Views' printed by the Simcoe
County Historical Society. and copies of publication by PMCL -
Proudly Serving Our Cusomers since 1867. (Canada, USA and North
America's oldest family - owned and operated motor coach company,
established in 1867)
It was moved by Earl Robertson and seconded by Bernice Hickling
that the correspondence as presented by received and filed for
future reference.
Old and Unfinished Business
(a) Noted that the Report from the History Committee had been included
the Township Newslettei for December.

(b) Chairman presented a large reap received from Lehman & Associates
to be used by the History Committee to plot Historic Sites,
Landmarks and places of interest and activity presently operating
in the Township that would be worth visiting y Tourists, etc.
(i.e. guided Tours)
It was left that Committee uembdrs meet at the home of Tim
Crawford on January 22, ;9996, at 1:15 p.m. for the purpose of
this project, to blot the aforementioned on the niap provided.

Election of Officers for 1996.
Following an informal discussion regarding the Election or
appointment of Officers for 1996 the following action was taken:
It was moved by Bernice Hickling and se.conddd by Earl Robertson
that the following Officers be elected for 1996.

It :+as recommended that Chairperson make enquiries as to the
progress on the matter of the African Church.
A short discussion or: the proposed Booklet: -
The Chairman suggested that the use of Video tapes in the
past should be noted and continued when possible for future
use. Cne tape in 1995 ,gas the Oro World's Fair.
The Committee members were in agreement that the use of
Video should be continued to capture Video images of significant
events in Oro-Iedonte.
(d) The Chairman advised that in discussion with the Township Clerk
a Budget for the History Committee is to be presented to the
Oro-Medonte Council for approval in the amount of $750.00 for
1996.
There being no further business at hand it was moved by Walter
Hutchinson that the meeting adjourn at 8:50 p.m., to meet again
on Monday February 12, 1996 at 7:30 p.m.
