03 14 1995 Oro-Medonte History Committee - MinutesTFE TOWNSFIP OF ORO-MEDONTE EISTORY COMMITTEE MEETING Merch 14, 1995 The Township of Oro-Medonte History Committee met this evens;.:. e at the Township of Oro Administrati:'n Building in the Boerd Room. The following members were present: Loreen (Rice) Lucas Bernice Hickling Henry Neufeld Walter Hutchinson Jadeen Henderson Earl Robertson Absent Tim Crawford Diary Garbutt Carl Campetelli Opening - Loreen (Rice) Lucas assumed the Chair and opened the meeting at 7:30 p.m. Linutes - The Minutes of the last regular meeting Peld on Februery 14, 1995 were on motion of Bernice Hickling end Jadeen Henderson adopted as printed and received. Correspondence Presented a lettee from Heather Murray, Associate Professor of English, U. of T, letter forwarded from Trinity College, requesting qftiiitilatipze identifying grouts thet existed in the area and locating archivel m terials, clippings, Linute Books, and so forth, for the purpose of a book she is writing on literary clugs inthe nineteenth century in Ont.erio. It was left than Loreen (Rice) Lucas reply. Presented letter from Ken Sitter, Project Co-Ordinator, Huronia Tourist Association (HTA) advising of the compiling a list of Fisteric attractions, sites, plaques and monuments in Simcoe County for the 1.ossible inclusion in the HTA publication, such as the Vacation Planner and Guide Map for Huronia. Enclosed a list of such sites, plaques, etc. in Oro-Medonte. (t.otel of 6) Letter requests that a listo of additional such sites, etc. be forwarded. Secretary advised of three such sites or plaques. Following discussion it tiva: moved by Walter Hutchinson and seconded by Earl Robertson that a letter forty -riling a list of addit- ional sites, etc. as discussed be sent to Huronia Tourist Association and tht Loreen (Rice) Lucas respond to letter from Trinity College. And that the correspondence and res onse he filed for reference. Old and Unfinished Business (a) Jadeen Henderson reported that Tim Crawford, Walter Hutchinson and :_erself had attended the meeting scheduled by the Tourist Association on behalf of the History Committee as well as Councillor Neil. Craig. She summarized in detail whet had taken place. From the summation it would appear that the meeting was negative and rather than assisting the Township with a means of promoting the African Church for historic value, the HTA appeared to indicate that they wanted to assume promation of TOWNSHIP OF OR.-MEDONTE HISTORY COMMITTEE MEETING Old Business (cont'd) the African Church as a Tourist attraction, open daily in the summer and having a Student remain on the site. The members of the Committee were not in favour of this suggestion, It was also felt that Councillor Neil Craig was not in. agreement with the suggestion by HTA. It also appeared that members of HTA disagreed with some dates regarding the history of the African Church. New Business Loreen (Rice) Lucas brought forward the progress on the Project with Video promotionof the p ast history. Video of changing of the times for easier presentation to Schools (method to make it more interesting for the younger gent-J. tion) Also sore specialty short Videos on varions asL.ects of pioneer life. The Secretary reported that name tags for the members of the History IIonmittee had been ordered. The Deputy Clerk to advise when available. The members of the Committee wish to congratulate the Chairman, Tin: Crawford on the appointment to the Simcoe County Bc-rd of,Educetion for Ward 4, at the Board meeting on March 13, 1995.
