The Township of Oro History Committee met this evening as
scheduled by resolution at the last regular meeting held on
January 13, 1987, with the following members present:
Howard Campbell
Joanna kcEwen
Ruth Fraser
Loreen Lucas
Marlene Mawdsley
Henry Neufeld
Walter Hutchinson
Absent: Jean Cameron and Wallace Key
Opening The meeting was opened by the Chairman, Howard
Campbell at 7:30 p.m.
Minutes The minutes of the last regular meeting held on
January 13, 1987 were on motion of Joanna McEwen
and Marlene Mawdsley adoped as printed and received.
Business Arising from the minutes of the meeting held on
January n, 1987.
(a) A draft Brief on Township of Oro Registered Plans of
Subdivisions as prepared by Henry Neufeld was presented
for consideration by the Committee.
It was moved by Loreen Lucas and sconded by Ruth Fraser
that Joanna McEwen as Editor review the draft Brief and
prepare same to be included within the first 50 pages
of the Update.
(b) Report on the African Church repairs to the floor
- Walter Hutchinson gave a verbal report on the repairs
to the floor of the African Church mentioning the persons
who had volentarily given their time to complete the
re -construction of the floor, namely Walter Hutchinson,
Howard Campbell and Keith Lees. The Township of Oro
assisted with equipment and the Operator, Robert Henderson.
(c) Report by the Chairman on the approval for same:
The Chairman advised that Oro Council were prepared to
approve the cost of the repairs.
(d) Naming of Title for the book of the Update of the "Story
of Oro"
It was suggested that the Title not be changed, only
adding the present Crest with Logo and the words Uptated
1987.
(e) Publicity procedure referred from lastmeeting:
No action at this time.
(f) Report and discussion re: persuing of Heritage Road Project:
(f) continued -
It was suggested that the Chairman, Howard Campbell and
Henry Neufeld on behalf of the History Committee discuss
the project further with the Re,ve and the local k.P.P.
4. Correspondence. Communications
(a) Letter from the Ministry to Administrator/Clerk
re: Procedure for Heritage Building Designation:
It was suggested that the Secretary pursue the matter
with the Administrator/Clerk with respect to contacting
the African Episcopal Methodist Church and the Black
History Society to obtain a deed for the property,
as follow up from previops correspondence in this
regard.
5. Rerort of Committees
(a)
Picture Committee: Howard Campbell reported that a
number of pictures had been selected and that still
others were be reviewed. To date it would appear
that approximately an additional 75 pictures would
be used, bringing the total pictures to 150.
Picturds still required or to be selectd - Cairn
at Memorial Park and CanadatCelebration 1985 & 1986.
Day
Also that Howard Campbell, Walter Hutchinson and
Wallace Key prepare a Brief on Barn Raising.
It was suggested that Howard Campbell and Henry
Neufeld obtain an estimate quotation from Thomson
Syffer Graphics for the printing of the Update.
After Joanna McEwen had reviewed the draft Update
of the first 50 pages several other matters were
discussed regarding further preparations for the
next 50 pages.
Adiounment
It was moved by Walter Hutchinson that the meeting
adjourn at 10:15 p.m. to meet again on Tuesday,
February 24, 1987.
