05 30 1991 Oro History Committee - MinutesTHE TO';,tNSHIF OF olio HISTORY COMMITTEE LEETING MAY 30, 1991 The Township of Oro History committee met this evening t the Township of Oro Administration Building in the Board Room at the call of the Chairperson. All members having been duly notified. The following members were present: Loreen (Rice) Lucas Henry Neufeld Walter Hutchinson Earl Robertson Absent: Howard Campbell, Bernice Hickling, Neil McNiven and Sandra Shelswell. Opening - The Meeting was opened by the Chairperson at 7:40 p.m. Minutes - The Minutes of the last regular meeting of April 11, 1991, copies of which had been forwarded to all members, were cn motion of Earl Robertson and Walter Hutchinson adopted as printed and received. Business arising from the Minutes of the meeting of April 11, 1991 - none brought forward. Correspondence & Communications (a) Presented letter from Administrator/Clerk advising that Cro Council had recommended that five hundred Poly- ester Envelopes for the preservation of Photographs be purchased at the cost of $348.50 and taken from the Oro History Committee Budget. (b) In response to Invitations forwarded to persons as suggested by Finlay Fayne - letters were received from - Marian K. Harvey, Toronto advising that she would liked to attend tut would not be able to do so, but hoped that the family would be represented by Charles Harvey and his wife. Also enclosed a cheque in the amount of $25.00 towards expensed of the event - also from Janna Ramsay Best from Surnaig House by Fort Ellen, Isle of Islay -acknowledging the invi- tation for the event of unveilling the Plaque to honour Marian Keith, but unfortunately she would not be able to attend, nor would Mrs Ramsay be able to attend and forwarded a book by Mrs. Ramsay on the Islay settlement in Oro. "John Ramsay of Kildalton." Being an account of his Life in Islay and including the Dairy of his trip to Canada in 1870, which was launched in Orillia in 1969, when it was published by Peter Martin Associates Limited. After being out of print for many years was reprinted in Scotland in 1988. Copies may be obtained and order forms enclosed. Business at hand for the Unveillina of the Plague for Marian Keith - Loreen Lucas to contact Township Office re: copies of the Program. -prepare remarks for opening and welcome as well as Historical background contact the three W.I.'s as to whether a representative of each would be interested in comments at the event iusic or tape for 0 Canada and Hymn - other matters regarding Chairperson for the event. Earl Robertson - to arrange for flags - contact Marilyn Cotton re: playing the Bagpipes - contact Ruth Langman re; playing the piano Henry Neufeld - to confirm with Dr. Brice Martin re: invocation and Dedication - contact Kent Dempsey re: F.A. System Howard Campbell - to bring copies of Marian Keith Books for display. - Earl Robertson and Walter iutchinson to look after the parking of vehicles - Bernice Hackling and Howard Campbell to look after the publications and sale of any Township History books Copies of Township Publications to be available for display: Story of Oro (2nd Edition) Kitt 'n' Kin - Bayview Memorial Park Knox Presbyterian Church History - History of Simcoe County There being no further business at hand it was moved by Earl.
