CCIw ITTEE KEETING
NOVFkBER 13, 1990
The Township of Oro History Committee, at the call of the Chair-
person, met this evening at the Township of Oro Administration
Building in the Bosrd Room. All members having been duly notified
by telephone. The following members were present:

0tening The meeting was opened by the Chairperson at 7:40 p.m.
Minutes The Linutes of the last Regular keeting held on July ?0,
1990, codes of which had been forwarded to all members,
were en motion of Howard Campbell and Earl Robertson
adopted as printed and received.
Business arising from the iinutes of the ieeting held July '0, 1990.
(a) Secretary reported that when notified by R.E. Trophies
that the Bronze claque in memory cf Marian heith (Author)
was now completed, he had approached the Treasurer, Henry
Sander with regard to obtaining a cheque to pay for same.
The request had been presented to Oro Council at a•Meet-
ing held on November 5, 1990 and a cheque in the amount el'
$467.04 was ,authorized. The Plaque was picked up at R.B.
Trophies rn November 6, 1990 end is now presented to the
History Committee.
(b) The Chairperson reported on the action taken with respect
to placing of the Township of Oro Publications, Story of
Oro; Kith 'n' Kin, in various places of business through-
out the Township. Also that she had sold a number of
books since the last meeting. The Books had been placed
on consignment basis mostly. The places of business are
to be visited again in Januery.
(c) The Secretary advised that as requested by Oro Council
4 members of the History Committee had attended a meeting
of 0ro Council held on September 17, 199C, at which the
Chairperson_ hed presented the Reeve, Robert Drury, with
the Chain of Office, the design of which had been prepared
and submitted to Council of Oro for approval. Upon approval
the Council h.id the Chain prepared. Four members of the
Committee attending the meeting were: Loreen (Rice) Lucas,
Howard Campbell, ►+a.rl Robertson and Henry Neufeld.
Also that at the Committee of Council Meeting held
the next week , September 24, 1990, the same members of
the History Committee attended regarding the placing of
pictures of past and present Councils on the rear wall
of the Council Chembers. Cro Council were in agreement
to having the pictures Proierly mounted in same size
frames Inc'. then have them placed on the rear wall at eye
level. Administrative Staff to look after having the
pictures properly mounted.

Corres o de e,_.
(a) Fresented letter from the Administretcr/Clerk advising
that as instructed by Cro Ccuncil, the Submission of the
History Committee re: County Restructuring, had been for-
w..rded to Warden, Donald Bell, Chairman of the County Study
Committee. Also that the letter of Submission be forwarded
to the Barrie and Orillia newspapers.
(o) Copy of the Submission has been filed for future reference.
(c) Presented copies cf letters forwarded to the Rugby W.I.;
Clowes W.I. and Harvie Settlement W.I., advising that the
Bronze Plaque in !,lemory of Marian Keith hs new been comp-
leted and will be mounted on a suitable stone at the north
end of the Rugby Community Hall .end that they will be noti-
fied of the unveilling cf the plaque. And, requesting that
they now forward t"eir.cheques of financial assistance, as
proposed erlies, for the project, to the Township of Cro
Treasurer. Also expressing the Committee's appreciation
for their participation and financial contribution.
It was moved by Walter Hutchinson end seconded by Neil ielliven
that the correspondence as received and forwarded, and iresented,
be received and filed for reference.
Oiiid and unfinished Business
(a) Report of Ad Hoc Committee re: mounting of Lachine Guns
in the Town Hall - by Walter Hutchinson, ;advising that
the brackets to mount same are now completed.
It was left that ;;alter Hutchinson obtain all necessary
material for the mounting and that he contact other
members when he is ready to mount same.
(b) Report of Chairperson with rest ect to the Beek Case to
be placed in the Foyer of the Township Administration
Building and presented Drawing/Flans for same which h-id
been prepared by Jim Rice.
The Flans were left with Walter Hutchinson for the
purrose of constructing the Book Case.
(c) Report of the Ad Hoc Committee on the lrogress of the
!vial showing the "Hills of Oro" end n mes to which they
have been referred to/and/or re still known by.
No rercort of further progress - left that the Committee
pursue the project -nd rresent same for cor.sideretion.
It was moved by Howard Crmrbell and seconded by Neil ii:cNiven
that members of the Committee arrange to have the stone
proposed for the mounting of the Flaque for Merian Keith,
placed at the north end of the Rugby Community Hall and that
Sanderson Monument be approached to mount the Flaque on the
stone. And that arrangements be made to have the "Unveilling
of the Plaque" in Spring at a time suitable to the Council
of the Township of Oro. And that the 'Women's Institutes that
participated be notified of the date and time as well as
other parties th-:t should be made aware of the event.

New Business
(a) The Chairerson suggested th..t the Committee give
consideration to appointing a younger !erson s member
of the History Committee and proposed that Sndra
Shelswell added to the Committee, as an interested
person in history and the Township. .should ^ro Council
be agreeable it would mean that the Fistory Committee
wog:ld hnve another generation added to its members.
After consideration it was moved by Earl Robertson and
seconded by Neil McNiven that the History Committee re-
commend to Oro Council that Sandra Shelswell be added s
a .member of the Township of Oro History Committee, since
she is interested in the history of the Township of "ro
and that her appointment would be adding another generation
to the Township History Committee. And further, the
Committee recommend that Oro Council approach (''rs) Sandra
Shelswell as to whether she would be interested in the
appointment.
No other new business was brought forward at this time.
Budget for 1991
A proposed Budget for 1991 was -:nought before the Committee
for discussion. It was suggested that the Budget be considered
by Council as a two year Budget since no request for one had
been resented to Council for 1990.
After consid-rable discussion and suggesti:ns, it was rci,vPd by
Howard Campbell and seconded by halter Hutchinson that "tl-I^
IListory Committee recommend that the Township of Oro include
in the 1991 Budget an amount of $2000 for the Township of Oro
History Committee work, based on a breakdown as follows:

There being no further business at hand it was moved by
Earl Robertson that the meeting adjourn 9$05 p.m. Next
meeting to :je at the call of the chair.
