MINUTES OF THE ORO-MEDONTE RECREATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING

Minutes of the May 1, 1997 meeting.
Moved by Graham Nelson, seconded by Bill Groves,
That the minutes of the May 1, 1997 meeting of the Recreation
Advisory Committee be adopted as circulated.
Carried.

Adoption of the Agenda.
Moved by Bill Groves, seconded by Ron Sommers,
That the Agenda for the Recreation Advisory Committee
June 10, 1997 be approved as circulated.

Correspondence:
a)
Letter to Barb Swanson, re: acknowledgement of
resignation and appreciation for years of service.
Moved by Graham Nelson, seconded by Ian Beard,
That the copy of the letter of acknowledgement of
resignation and expression of appreciation for years of
service to Barbara Swanson be received for information.
Carried.
b)
Memo from A. Brousseau, Committee Secretary,
funding policy on parks capital projects;
re:

Moved by Graham Nelson, seconded by Bill Groves,
That the information provided be received and remain as
an Outstanding Item, to be dealt with by this Committee
at a later date, following the completion of the
Recreation Master Plan.
Carried.
7.
Director's MonthJ.y Report
a)
The Director provided the Committee with an outline
regarding the Background Report to the Recreation Master
Plan noting that the Vision Statement had been revised.
Following a lengthy discussion and comments by the
Committee, the Director advised that Department Head
comments on the Plan were forthcoming with an
anticipated presentation to Council at their Committee
of the Whole meeting on June 25. General comments were
made by the Committee and noted by the Director. It was
generally accepted that there is a need to distinguish
the Recreation Master Plan from a "land use" document.
A suggestion was made to include library services within
the context of the Plan. The Director advised that a
written reference to library services will be added.
The Director outlined the process remaining, indicating
that a draft will be provided for Council review and
comment, to be followed by a Public Meeting in August.
Further to the Public Meeting(s),the Plan would be
revised based on comments received during the Public

Meetings. The Revised Draft would then be returned to
Council. It is anticipated that the final draft would
be submitted to the Committee in September.
b)
Summer Play Camps: The Director reported on the summer
programs noting that the day camp activities have been
revamped to half-day programs in three different
locations throughout the Township. A report reviewing
the success of the new system will be provided to the
Committee in the fall of 1997.

The Chairman reported on the Community
Association meeting held on May 26, 1997.
