b) Notice of Public Meeting for Proposed Amendments to the Zoning By-law of the
Township of Oro-Medonte, Keeping of Backyard Chickens, 2016-ZBA-08, Township
of Oro-Medonte, General Amendment.
Deputy Mayor Hough called the meeting to order at 8:22 p.m. and explained the public
meeting is being held in accordance with Section 34, of the Planning Act, to obtain
public comment with respect to a proposed Zoning Amendment Application. The
purpose of Application 2016-ZBA-08 is to consider a proposal to amend Zoning By-law
97-95, to permit backyard chickens in site specific areas.
Notice of the Public Meeting Notice of the Public Meeting was circulated to the
appropriate Agencies, posted on the Township's website and posted in the surrounding
newspapers on or before November 17, 2016.
The following correspondence was received: Robert C. McKeown dated October 25,
2016; Simcoe County District School Board dated November 15, 2016; Severn Sound
Environmental Association dated November 16, 2016; Nottawasaga Valley
Conservation Authority dated November 17, 2016; Township of Oro-Medonte;
Transportation Division dated November 18, 2016; Ministry of Municipal Affairs &
Housing dated November 28, 2016; Ron & Brenda Robinson dated December 5, 2016.
Andria Leigh, Director, Development Services explained the purpose and effect of the
proposed amendment. A PowerPoint presentation was presented.
The following public persons offered verbal comments with respect to the proposed amendment:
Jen Kunej provided comments in favour of the amendment, preference to an increase in
the flock size, yearly inspection questions, possibly allow flexibility in a case by case
basis, and the possibility of a limited number of permits in the first year of
implementation.
Sheila Craig provided comments with respect to concerns of bird flu contamination, and
having a contingency plan in place for those driving their chickens to market.
Spencer Robertson provided comments in favour, concerns of coop structure area,
comments if coops could be allowed behind the dwelling but to the side of the yard
depending on the lot area and size of flock too restrictive.
Chris McCaskie provided comments against the permit and annual inspection process,
property owner's responsibilities/obligations, concerns that by-law is too restrictive and
size of flock restrictions.

Deputy Mayor Hough advised that additional deputations to the Committee or Council
regarding this application may be permitted, but only for the introduction to new
information not already presented through the Public Meeting process.

There being no further comments or questions, the meeting adjourned at 9:09 p.m.

Yuri Mykolyk, applicant, was present. Sean Oue t, designer for application, was
present.
The following public persons offered verbal comments:
Warren Clark provided concerns with respect to the garage if a b9mmercial operation
commenced or the buildings become a living accommodation. He ovided concerns
with the size and height of the boathouse.
Glenn Stringer provided concerns if property was sold and potentially futurse of
workshop, traffic flow, concerns if buildings became a living accommodation;
water/sewage going into the garage, concerns of garage being the same size as
dwelling, setting a precedence of having two story boathouse and affecting the vie,
