01 18 2016 Heritage Committee Minutes_A Township of Proud Heritage, Exciting Future The Township of Oro-Medonte Heritage Committee Meeting Minutes Robinson Room Time: 6:00 p.m. Monday, January 18, 2016 Present: Mayor H.S. Hughes Councillor Scott Jermey, Chair Councillor John Crawford, Vice -Chair Ruth Fountain Dorothy Moore Kayla Thibeault Lynda Whiston Regrets: Trudy O'Donnell Staff Present: Sandie Leonard, Coordinator, Community Recreation; Janette Teeter, Supervisor, Clerk's Services/Deputy Clerk Councillor Jermey assumed the Chair and called the meeting to order. 1. Adoption of Agenda: a) Motion to Adopt the Agenda. Motion No. HC160118- Moved by Fountain, Seconded by Thibeault It is recommended that the agenda for the Heritage Committee meeting held on Monday, January 18, 2016 be received and adopted. 2. Adoption of Minutes of Previous Meeting: a) Minutes of Heritage Committee meeting held on November 23, 2015. Motion No. HC160118-2 Moved by Thibeault, Seconded by Moore It is recommended that the draft minutes of Heritage Committee meeting held on Monday, November 23, 2015 be received and adopted as printed and circulated. Carried. 4. Deputations: a) Daphne Mainprize and John Merritt, Orillia Museum of Art and History (OMAH) re: OMAH Planned 2016 Exhibit. Additional correspondence was distributed to the Committee and staff. Motion No. HC160118-3 Moved by Whiston, Seconded by Fountain It is recommended 1. That the correspondence dated January 8, 16 and 18, 2016 and presented by Daphne Mainprize and John Merritt, Orillia Museum of Art and History (OMAN) re: OMAH Planned 2016 Exhibit be received. 2. That it is recommended to Council that the OMAH's initiative on the exhibition of the Oro African Church and the African -Canadian Settlement in the Township be supported. 3. That the OMAH's funding request, in the amount of $2,250.00, be approved upon the completion of an agreement to clarify the ownership and use of the travelling exhibit and materials. 4. Communications: a) Correspondence dated October 15, 2015 from Publications Committee, Niagara Historical Society, Niagara -on -the -Lake re: Publication, Training for Armageddon, Niagara Camp in the Great War 1914-1919 by Richard D. Merritt. Motion No. HC160118-4 Moved by Thibeault, Seconded by Whiston It is recommended that the correspondence dated October 15, 2015 from Publications Committee, Niagara Historical Society, Niagara -on -the -Lake re: Publication, Training for Armageddon, Niagara Camp in the Great War 1914-1919 by Richard D. Merritt be received. Carried. b) Correspondence dated October 23, 2015 re: Letter of Appreciation, Penetanguishene Road Historic Villages Signage Project. Motion No. HC160118-5 Moved by Fountain, Seconded by Moore It is recommended that the correspondence dated October 23, 2015 re: Letter of Appreciation, Penetanguishene Road Historic Villages Signage Project be received. Carried. c) Correspondence received January 14, 2016 from Simcoe County Historical Association re: Newsviews, The Quarterly Newsletter of the Simcoe County Historical Association, Winter 2015. Motion No. HC160118-6 Moved by Thibeault, Seconded by Moore It is recommended 1. That the correspondence received January 14, 2016 from Simcoe County Historical Association re: Newsviews, The Quarterly Newsletter of the Simcoe County Historical Association, Winter 2015 be received. 2. That the Simcoe County Historical Association membership be renewed for 2016 for the Heritage Committee in the amount of $15.00. 3. And That staff proceed accordingly. Carried. Reports of Members of Council/Municipal Officers: a) Councillor Jermey, correspondence received December 22, 2015 re: History Summary of Rugby Community Hall, Municipal Heritage Register Policy. Motion No. HC160118-7 Moved by Moore, Seconded by Whiston It is recommended 1. That the correspondence received December 22, 2015 and presented by Councillor Jermey re: History Summary of Rugby Community Hall, Municipal Heritage Register Policy be received. 2. And That it is recommended to Council that the Rugby Community Hall be added to the Municipal Register of Municipally Significant and / or Cultural Heritage Properties. Carried. b) Councillor Jermey re: Recognition Correspondence [from November 23, 2015 meeting]. Motion No. HC160118-8 Moved by Thibeault, Seconded by Whiston It is recommended 1. That the verbal information presented by Councillor Jermey re: Recognition Correspondence be received. 2. And it is recommended to Council that staff continue to receive and process requests on an ad hoc basis. Carried. 7. Questions from the Public Clarifying an Agenda Item: Questions from the Public Clarifying an Agenda Item provides an opportunity for the members of the public to seek clarification with respect to the decision which was made on an agenda item, the meaning of the decision and the next steps as a result of the decision.
