July 3, 2015 Mayor Harry Hughes Township of Oro Medonte 148 Line 7S Box 100 Oro, Ontario L0L 1X0 Dear Mayor Hughes, Can you believe another year has gone by so quickly and here I am asking for your support yet again! I am happy to say that we will be holding our 3 annual 100K for United Way event! This year, in hopes of getting a rd warmer day, we are holding the event on Sunday, September 13, 2015. We will be utilizing the Oro Fairgrounds again and for the most part, the same 3 routes as in previous years. This year we have also included a Corporate Challenge Ï inviting companies in the Simcoe/Muskoka Region to enter a team and vie for the new ÑSilver CycleÔ trophy for the team that raises the most donations (a trophy is also available for any friends/family teams). Of course the Township of Oro Medonte is invited to join in the challenge! Mayor Hughes, would you be available again this year to welcome everyone to Oro Medonte? Your attendance would be appreciated! I am also asking if the Township of Oro Medonte would once again waive the building permit fee for the tents that we will be using at the fairgrounds. As you are aware this event is being held to raise funds for United Way and its funded agencies that serve all of Simcoe/ Muskoka and we, of course, are trying to keep our event costs down so that more funds can be used where it is needed the most. Your consideration to waive the building permits for these tents would be greatly appreciated as well! Should you require more information, I can be reached at probertson@UnitedWayGSC.ca or at 705-726-2301 x 2023. CAO Walters added that budget assumptions are designed to generate discussions with our municipal partners at budget time. AORS and SCRSA have requested that the Minister of Transportation, Steven Del Duca, attend the event to present the trophy to the winning driver, as has been the tradition over the past number of years. As part of the regional event, all members of Council are invited to compete in a similar th driving event that will be running September 9. Ontario Municipal Cycling Infrastructure Program Building cycling infrastructure is important in helping us achieve the vision of #CycleON: Ontario's Cycling Strategy <http://www.ontario.ca/english/publications/ontario- cycling-strategy.shtml>: Ontario as a great place to ride a bike. As part of #CycleON Action Plan 1.0 <http://intra.mto.gov.on.ca/english/publications/ontario-cycling-strategy.shtml> , the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) has established the $10 million Ontario Municipal Cycling Infrastructure Program, to help municipalities build new and improve existing cycling infrastructure. Under this new program, municipalities are eligible to apply for funding for up to 50% of the total eligible costs of a cycling infrastructure project to a maximum amount of $325,000. Funding will be provided between April 1, 2016 and March 31, 2018. The program includes a two-stage application process that involves the submission of an expression of interest (EOI) and, for municipalities shortlisted on the basis of their EOI, an application form. One EOI is permitted per municipality and MTO expects to hold a single intake. Both EOIs and applications will be evaluated in a competitive process. The deadline for submitting an EOI is August 6, 2015. To learn more about the Ontario Municipal Cycling Infrastructure Program and how to apply, please read the EOI <http://www.forms.ssb.gov.on.ca/mbs/ssb/forms/ssbforms.nsf/GetFileAttach/023- 5073E~1/$File/5073E.pdf>form and Program Guide <http://www.forms.ssb.gov.on.ca/mbs/ssb/forms/ssbforms.nsf/GetFileAttach/023- 5073E~2/$File/5073E_Guide.pdf> . MTO also plans to hold an information session to answer any outstanding questions. Please contact us by email at omcip@ontario.ca <mailto:omcip@ontario.ca> if you would like to participate. Frequently Asked Questions may be updated in response to queries during the EOI period. We recommend you consult the most recent version before contacting us with questions or submitting your EOI. Cycling Training Fund 2015 and 2016 Cycling is a popular activity in Ontario, for recreation and to get around. But your training as a cyclist probably ended when your parents took off your training wheels. Many municipalities and other organizations already offer a variety of programs to help kids and adults learn more about cycling safely. Ontario is committed to helping build and encourage opportunities for cycling training in the province as part of its first Action Plan <http://www.ontario.ca/english/publications/ontario-cycling-strategy.shtml>to support #CycleON <http://www.ontario.ca/english/publications/ontario-cycling- strategy.shtml> , a 20-year vision for cycling in Ontario. Through our new Cycling Training Fund the Ministry of Transportation is allocating $380,000 in financial assistance in 2015 and 2016 to help partners develop, enhance and deliver cycling skills training programs in the province. Municipalities, school boards, schools, businesses and non-profit organizations are all eligible to apply. This new fund will support projects that provide opportunities for cycling education in schools or at the community level, build skills to promote safe and enjoyable cycling, and encourage healthier and more physically active lifestyles. This time-limited funding is part of Ontario's Promotion, Celebration and Legacy Strategy for the 2015 Pan/Parapan American Games. Two types of funding are available: 1.Cycling skills training projects or cycling instructor training projects up to $2,500 for delivery of cycling skills training. up to $3,000 for delivery of cycling instructor training. Applicants will have two opportunities to apply for funding. For projects delivered in 2015, applications are now being accepted until Sept. 4, 2015. For projects delivered in 2016, applications will be accepted from Oct. 15 to Dec. 15, 2015. Applications will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis. 2.Cycling curriculum and/or public education projects up to $25,000 for cycling curriculum development or enhancement, and/or public education. Applicants will have one opportunity to apply for projects delivered in 2015 and/or 2016. Applications are now being accepted until Sept. 4, 2015. Applications will be evaluated in a competitive process. To learn more about the Cycling Training Fund and how to apply, please read the Application Guide <http://www.forms.ssb.gov.on.ca/mbs/ssb/forms/ssbforms.nsf/GetFileAttach/023- 5075E~1/$File/5075E.pdf>.
