ORO- MEDONTE
Zoning By -Law Amendment Application 2013- ZBA -02
9 Symond Avenue, Concession 8, Plan 798, Lots 70 -72, and Part 18, 51R -37008
In regards to the application noted above to amend the requirement of extending Symond
Avenue from 30metres to 10 meters.
I have attended (2) meetings so far regarding this property which borders my property.
The first was to discuss having one lot divided into three lots at approximately 60' -67'
wide.
This amendment was not approved and one of the statements that the committee made at
that time was that they are there to prevent mistakes that may have been made in the past.
It was also noted that a turnaround for snow plows may be required.
The second meeting was to request that the one lot be divided into two lots.
It was noted that the roadway would need to be extended to allow for proper frontage.
A request was made by Barb and Kris that there be an amendment to allow for only
extending the road 10 meters and no turnaround. This will only allow enough room for a
driveway.
I have two concerns regarding this request:
(1) Where will the snow be piled in the winter. Currently it is pushed into an open area at
the end of the existing road. Once the road is extended, will there be space to pile the
snow?
(2) If this extension is passed and there is no turn around for the plows the driver will
have to back the snow plow down the street (approximately 200metres), back onto or
across Lakeshore Road and continue on his way. This practice is an accident waiting to
happen.
In the morning when the plow is working, this area there is a considerable amount of
traffic including school buses, children walking to the bus and residents driving to work.
The corner of Symond and Lakeshore East is also a bus stop for public school children
going to Guthrie Public School.
There are currently (2) Families living on Symond Avenue with young children. If these
lots are developed this street will become busier and will increase the chances of an
incident.
Having a large vehicle like a snowplow backing up the street is a dangerous situation.
The visibility in these vehicles is not the greatest and considering that they are out in the
worst types of weather only adds to the potential of an accident.
There is still another lot at the end of Symond that the McKay's own that they have
indicated they may build their home on in the future.
Will there be another application to amend the requirement for a turn around?
Will the cost of extending the road and building a turnaround be too much?
At that point there may never be a proper road extension or turn around.
I feel that without the road being extended to its proper requirement and with no turn
around it is only a matter of time before there is some type of incident.
Thank for your time and consideration of these concerns.
