THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWNSHIP OF ORO-MEDONTE
BY.LAW NO. 98- 121
BEING A BY-LAW TO ESTABLISH PARK REGULATIONS WITH
RESPECT TO MUNICIPAL PARKLAND WITHIN THE TOWNSHIP
OF ORO-MEDONTE AND TO REPEAL BY-LAW NO. 94-072.
WHEREAS the Council of the Corporation of the Township of Oro-Medonte
(hereinafter the "Township") is empowered to pass by-laws pursuant subsection
207 (52) of the Municipal Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. M. as amended for the exercise of
all or any of the powers that are conferred on a Board of Park Management
pursuant to the Public Parks Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. P. 46;
AND WHEREAS as no public parks or other lands owned or controlled by the
Township are under the general management, regulation or control of a Board of
Management;
AND WHEREAS Council of the Corporation of the Township of Oro-Medonte
deems it expedient and in the public interest to enact a by-law establishing
regulations with respect to municipally-owned or controlled parkland within the
Township;
NOW THEREFORE the Council of the Corporation of the Township of Oro-
Medonte enacts as follows:
1. Definitions:
MOTORIZED SNOW VEHICLE - means a self-propelled vehicle designed
to be driven primarily on snow.
PUBLIC PARK - means all lands owned by or belonging to the Township
and as otherwise may be designated for use as a public park.
SERVICE VEHICLE - means any municipal vehicle, including emergency
vehicles.
SPECIAL EVENT - means those events approved by Municipal Council.
2. No person shall within any public park:
DAMAGE: a) Willfully or maliciously damage, remove, deface, any
trees, shrub, grass, plant, sand, gravel, soil, rock, building,
monument, fence, bench, or other structure.
DOGS: b) Lead or let loose dogs of any kind within any
Township parks in accordance with Schedule "A", attached
and forming part of this by-law.
OFF.ROAD VEHICLES: c) Operate or use off-road vehicles in any
public park within the Township.
MOTORIZED SNOW VEHICLES: d) Operate or use motorized snow
vehicles in any public parks within the Township except:
I) to provide access to the lakes at the following park
locations: Memorial Park, Shelswell Park, Southside
Bass Lake and the parkland adjacent to the 12th Line
End-of-Road Allowance.

II) in the event of an emergency involving personal
injury, motorized snow vehicles shall be permitted in
public parks.
III) as otherwise authorized by the Township.

CAMPING: e) Camp or lodge therein in any public park in the
Township.
SLEEPING IN PARKS: f) Use a park for the purpose of overnight
sleeping between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 9 a.m.
SALE OF MERCHANDISE: g) Sell, or offer for sale, or expose any
merchandise, article or anything for immediate or future
delivery, or any art, skill or service exercised or performed
immediately or in the future.
TRADE OR BUSINESS: h) Practice, carry on, conduct or solicit for
any trade, occupations, business, or profession.
POSTING NOTICES, ADVERTISING: i) Distribute any handbills or
circulars, or post, place or erect any bills, notice or paper,
or advertising device or matter of any kind.
BIRDS, FOWL AND ANIMALS: j) Disturb, molest, wound, attempt to
kill, or kill any bird, fowl or animal upon park property and
no person shall remove or injure any bird's nest or eggs.
NO ADMITTANCE SIGNS: k) Enter any place or location where the
sign "No Admittance" is displayed.
VEHICLES FOR HIRE AND SOLICITING: I) Stand or park a vehicle
in any part of a park for the purpose of hire, or solicit
passengers for any vehicle for hire in the parks.
DISORDERLY CONDUCTAND NUISANCE: m) Indulge in riotous,
boisterous, threatening, indecent or nuisance conduct or
abusive, threatening or profane language.
MATCHED GAMES: n) Engage in the playing of "ball" or "ball and
bat" games, except on grounds especially designated
for such purpose, and under no circumstances within 20
feet of any driveway.
DISPOSAL OF REFUSE, BOTTLES, ETC: 0) Scatter, drop or leave
in the parks, any piece of paper, rag, garbage, empty
container or other bottle or any glass articles or broken
glass articles or rubbish of any kind, except in receptacles
provided for the deposit of refuse.

STRIKING OF GOLF BALLS: p) Play or practice golf or in any way
strike, hit, or otherwise propel a golf ball.
AMPLIFICATION SYSTEM: q) Operate or use any apparatus,
mechanism or device for the amplification of the human
voice, music or sound.

NATURAL ICE RINKS: r)
e
I) RACING SKATES: No person using any skating rink,
under the management of the Township, shall use a
long nosed racing skate unless a toe guard protects the
same.
II) HOCKEY STICKS: No person shall carry a recreation/
hockey stick of any kind on the ice except upon rinks
provided for the playing of hockey.
3. The Council may grant an exemption to Section 2 or any part thereof
for any Special Event and may require compliance with requirements of
the Recreation and Community Economic Development Department,
Fire Department, Municipal Works, Building/Bylaw Department, Simcoe
County District Health Unit, Ontario Hydro or any other department or
agency as deemed necessary.
For the purpose of Section 3, Special Events may
include, but are not limited to:
. Canada Day Celebrations
. Promenade Days
. Tree Lighting Ceremonies
. Corporate Fun Runs
. Community Festivals
4. ENFORCEMENT & FINES: Every person who contravenes any Provision
of this By-law is guilty of an offence and shall be liable to a fine in the
amount to be determined pursuant to the Provincial Offences Act. R.S.O.
1990, c. P.33 and every such fine is recoverable under the Provincial
Offences Act.
5. SEVERABILITY CLAUSE: In the event that any provision of this by-law is
quashed or is declared or otherwise found to ultra vires or unenforceable by
the Township, such clause shall be deemed to have been severed from the
remainder of the by-law.
6. By-law No. 94-072 is hereby repealed.
7. This By-law shall come into force and effect on its final passing.
