Minutes January 26, 2009--~bpm
Attendance: Allan Howard, Chair; Bruce Wiggins; Sheila Kirkland, secretary; Margaret Prewer;
Geoffrey Booth, vice-chair; and Jadeen Henderson
Guests: Mr. Bruce Chappell, Sandy Agnew-Councilor
Mr. Bruce Chappell was introduced by Bruce and presented a proposal for an
Agricultural Hall of Fame that is in the Simcae County Museum. Need to buy a $50 membership
(Mayor Hughes indicated to Mr. Chappell that it would be covered} and someone from our
Association to represent the Township. There are approximately 3-4 meetings per year. To
nominate someone to the Hall of Fame the individual needs to be deceased and contributed in
some way to the agriculture field. There is a forth to nominate a person and it is voted on by the
committee, that has representatives from the surrounding Townships. Meetings are held at the
Simcoe County Museum.
Mr. Chappell thanked by group and left.
Minutes of October26 and November 24 circulated. Moved by Bruce Wiggins and seconded by
Margaret Prewer be accepted as circulated.
41d Business
• 2009 Heritage L7ay and tractor rally update given by Bruce Wiggins. Poster approved far
the event at the last Agricultural meeting. Bruce has several sponsors already and will put
them an a larger poster for advertising. Held August 8, hall booked by Margaret, more
information to follow.
Geoffrey Booth and Jadeen Henderson arrived.

• The Oro African Church, NHS 160`s a~cu~iversary-choirs: University of Toronto Gospel
Choir, Nathaniel Dett Choir of Toronto, Hawkestone Choir, St.Paul`s United Choir,
Shanty Bay Anglican Choir.
Date: July 25. Suggest using Guthrie Church if able for the choirs and service and then tours to
the African Church.. Sti11 awaiting budget approval. Bruce will contact Mr. Campbell (church
trustee) on how to proceed with asking permission for use of the Guthrie church and costs
involved.

by Margaret and Allan. They also suggested she contact the Archives at Simcoe County.
• Email: Margaret Cole re: suggesting Gary French be asked as a guest speaker to any
event we plan, she felt July or August would be good for an event Allan will respond
and let her know he has been invited to every event we have presented,

• Email: Simcoe County Historical membership---Margaret responded
• Email: request for information on the cemetery at the Oro-Medonte dump site on the Old
Barrie Road. Allan responded.
New Business
• Bruce will put castors under the display cabinet in the Township lobby and Margaret will
state a display every 4 months.
• Storage container-still no ward from Mayor Hughes regarding the container far us.
• Alex Kaladziej was unable to attend the meeting to talk about "cited acknowledgement
of the source frarn The Story of Oro and Kith'n Kin". He will try to attend our next
meeting.
• Iadeen has purchased a book that contains infarrnation on the Copeland forest and it's
lagging.
• Allan visited the Township website regarding History
• Geoff gave report an attendance at the group who are doing historical plaques along the
rail trail. This year they are going to put up a sign at Ora Station-is the plan.
• Jadeen suggested we look into articles far the African church anniversary like picture on
jewelry, etc.
Next meeting is February 1g at 6pm at Township Administration Centre
