a) John Walzak, Chief Operations Officer, Ontario Harness Horse Association,
correspondence dated October 13, 2006 re: Request for Support.

Be it resolved that the correspondence dated October 13, 2006 from John
Walzak, Chief Operations Officer, Ontario Harness Horse Association, re:
Request for Support be received; and
And Whereas the Great Canadian Gaming Corporation (GCGC) has applied to
the Ontario Racing Commission (ORC) to reduce the number of live race days in
Ontario;
And Whereas Horsepeople have invested in, and developed, horses on the
basis of the traditional race day scheduled in these areas and these reductions
will have significant and negative economic impact in the rural and agricultural
sectors;
Now Therefore, the Council of the Township of Oro-Medonte supports the
Ontario Harness Horse Association’s request to the Ministry of Government
Services to:
(a) fully consider the position of the horsepeople,
(b) to hold public hearings to address the concerns of the Ontario Harness
Horse Association, and
(c) to appove the standard racing schedules for Georgian Downs, Flamboro
Downs and Windsor Raceway.
And Further That Dalton McGuinty, Premier; Gerry Phillips, Minister of
Government Services; David Caplan, Minister of Public Infrastructure Renewal;
Garfield Dunlop, MPP Simcoe North; and the Ontario Harness Horse
Association be advised of Council’s decision.
