1 19 1993 History Committee - CorrespondenceTHE CORPORATION OF THE TOWNSHIP 43, OF Office of the — Township of Oro History Committee Mr. Rob Hughes, 22 Hanover Road, Apt. 303, BRAMPTON, Ontario L6S 5K7 Dear Mr. Hughes: January 19, 1993 Re: Existing Railway Stations Your letter of December 15, 1992 to the Township of Oro Clerk was presented to the Township of Oro History Committee for consideration and response. At a meeting of the Committee on January 14, 1993 the Township History Committee reviewed your request for information on the railway stations that had existed or still are in use in the Township of Oro or adjacent thereto. Although the railroad through the Township of Oro is still used by the railway, no stations as such, exist. A11 have been removed and some of the stations site properties have been sold. Without going into detail in a letter regarding the history of the railroad., the Committee suggested forwarding a copy of "The Story of Oro", second edition 1987, which makes reference to the railroad from the time the railroad through the Township of Oro was established in the 1870's. Should this book be of assistance to you, you may forward a cheque in the amount of $15.00 to cover cost of same, to the Treasurer of the Township. Should it not prove to be of any assistance for your research, you may return it to the Township of Oro. Trusting that this will be of some assistance to you and good luck in your research. enck: copy of "Story of Oro" y, list of pages that refer to Railroad. cc: Clerk Township of Oro Oro Staiien, Box 100, Ontario, LOL 2E0 my Net eld, Secretar , Township of Oro History Committee Telephone (705) 487-2171 Pages that Railroad is made reference of in the "Story of Oro" Pages 114 - 116 Hawkestone pages 264 to 266 (note: station removed during the 1970's Oro Station - pages 298 - 299 Shanty Bay - page 333 (known as Gowan sation prior to 1924) Also page 126 Carthew Siding page 168 C.P.R. This would include any station building which may reside on its original site and serve a railway purpose or has been moved to another location as a residence, shed etc. It would really be appreciated if you could list the location of any such buildings that, to your knowledge, still exist within Oro (or else where in the County of Simcoe for that matter, if one is aware). As well, if you know of an individual or group who is well versed on local railway station history, I would like to communicate with them. Please indicate their address. Thankyou very much for your time and help in advance. Rob Hughes Please address correspondence to: Rob Hughes 22 Hanover Road Apartment 303 Brampton, Ontario L6S 5K7
