TOWNSHIP OF ORO HISTORY COMMITTEE
MEETING January 18,1990
The Township of Oro History Committee met this evening at the
Township of Oro Administration Building in the Board Room, at
the call of the Chairperson. All members h,yingbeen duly
notified by telephone. The following members were present:
Loreen Lucas Henry Neufeld
Howard Campbell Earl Robertson
Walter Hutchinson Neil McNiven
Absent - Bernice Hickling
The meeting was opened at 8,00 p.m. by the Chairperson.
The Minutes of the last regular ~eet1ng held on
October 17, 1989 which had been circulated to all
members and read this evening were on motion of
Howard Campbell and Earl Robertson adopted as read,
printed and received. Motion carried

(a)
Report re: Chain of Office by Loreen Lucas - advising
that she and Howard Campbell had attended a meeting of
Council to present the recommendations of this Committee,
and th8t the material had been forwarded to Dominion
Regalia by the Township.
(b)
Report re: names of Hills of Oro by names used in general.
Walter Hutchinson advised that the names of Hills h~d
not been placed on maps as yet since SOffie more research
is still re~ed, also that it is anticpated that a
legend will be prepared and only numbers marked on a map.
It ar~ears that there will be some difficulty placing
the hills in the right spots of the lots.
Report re: Flaque in Memory of Marian Keith (Author)
- not much further information is available at thiw time.

It was moved by Neil McNiven and seconded by Walter Hutchinson
that the verbal reports be accepted as satisfactory and a
letter be forwarded to James Mathews and Company Ltd. along
with the proposed wording to obtain an estimated price, Glso
an estimated length of time required to prepare the Plaque.

Corresrondence and Communications
The Secretary presented a letter from the Administrator/Clerk
forwarding COlY of letter Orillia Heritage Centre Board and
letter. forwarding. .c.ouncill s resolution regarding the reques\t
from the Orillia Heritage Centre Board requesting Council to
ãppoint a contact person for the Beard and to serve on
80mmittee(s) of the Board. Resolution refers the letter to
the Township of Oro History Committee for consideration and

nd recommendation. Also co~y of letter forwarding Council's
resolution to the Orillia Herit e Centre Board, and advising
that further correspondence will b~ forwarded once the History
Committee s given consideration toe the request and made.

After consideration the following action was taken by the
History Committee:
It was moved by Earl Robertson and seconr:ed by Howard Camtbell
that the Chair~erson of the History Committee contact Marlene
~awdsley and Joanna McEwen as to their interest and willingness
to serve as the Townshi~ of Oro contact person and act on
Committees of the Orillia Heritage Centre Board as the re~resQ~tat~
lve from the Townshi~ of Oro.

It was moved by Neil ~cNiven and secon~ed by Walter Hutcinson
that the correspondence and Communications as received and
forwarded, s presented, be filed for necessary reference.
New Business
Howard Camlbell advised that ~rs. ~ary Haskell of Midland
would ap~reciate any ~hotos of prints showing land bordering
Lake Simcoe and lands backing same. Mary Haskell is an
Executive of the Simcoe Co~nty Historical Society.

Howard Carorbell also advised that he had been approached by
Janet Currie ith respect to preraring a talk and illustration
with respect to òevelID~ment of Schools from Log Schools to more
modern buildings and eventually to School Area Schools.
