01 14 1993 History Minutes THE TOWNSHIP OF ORO HISTORY COMMITTEE MEETING January 14,1993 The Township of Oro History Committee met this afternoon at the Township of Oro Administration Building in the Committee Room. All members of the Committee had been notified by telephone. The following members were present: Loreen (Rice) Lucas Walter Hutchinson Henry Neufeld Earl Robertson Tim Crawford Jadeen Henderson Bernice Hickling Absent: Sandra Shelswell Opending: By the Chairperson at 2:35 p.m. The Minutes of the last regular meeting held on November 19,1992, which h~d been forwarded to all members were on motion of Earl Robertson and Tim Crawford adopted as printed and received. Minutes: Correspondence & Communications Presented letter to the Clerk of the Township of Oro requesting information and list of locations of Railway Stations in the Township of Oro and the location of same still in use, if any. On motion of Walter Hutchinson and Bernice Hickling that in response a copy of "The Story of Oro", second addition 1987, be forwarded to Rob Hughes, since history of Railroads is included in the publication. Cost of the book to be included and that should the book not meet with his requirement same could be returned. Presented letter from Su Murdock, Archival and Historical Consulting advising of the Long Range Planning and Development Study and that this study will provide a framework for the future of the MacLaren Art Centre at Maple Hill, 147 Toronto street, Barrie, Ontario. The letter was accepted as information and be filed for future reference if required. Presented copy of Simcoe County Archives - Accession Receipt #992-14, for books placed as History Material by Loreen (Rice) Lucas - 2 books by Marian Keith -liThe End of the Rainbow"and "As A Watered Garden". Also presented a copy of a notice of meeting at the Guthrie Public School on Turesday, January 26,1993, to consider a proposal to or¡anize an "Oro Historical Society". The Chairperson has been asked to be the gùest speaker. It was moved by Tim Crawford and seconded by Walter Hutchinson that all coreespondence presented to the meeting be filed for future reference. - 2 - Old and Unfinished Business Represented letter from Brenda Ruffet regarding the enquiry on John Hardie and his children, John and Mary, who had settled on E~ lot 6, Con. 13, Township of Oro. Secretary advised available. It was left that Earl Robertson endeavour to obtain further information by contacting persons having knowledge of the Hardie family. The Chairperson referred to proposals prepared by Tim Crawford and had been presented to the Simcoe County Historical AssociatioA. The proposals were read out and discussed by the Committee. that to date no further information has become It was moved by Tim Crawford and seconded by Jadeen Henderson that the propsals as presented to the Simcoe County Historical Association be accepted as satisfactory. Tim Crawford presented an old map of Hawkestone, which had been processed by a method called in capsuling by the Simcoe County Archives. Tim Crawford explained the method which he had observed and suggested that the Committee could use this method for the restoration of documents. It was further suggested that the members of the Committee meet to practice the method with some documents of frail nature. The proposed booklet "The Hills of Oro and Other Landmarks" which had been presented to many meetings and now presented as printed by Tim Crawford, WaS reviewed by the Committee, page by page. The recommendations, corrections, additions and or deletions are to be completed by Tim Crawford for final submission for publication. The booklet is to be dedicated to the memory of Howard Campbell for his enthusiasm in the recording and preser- in¡ of the history of Oro and the numerous projects of same to which he dedicated his time and effort, including the many publications by the Township of Oro History Committee over the years. While Howard was with us we valued his friendship. Now we cherish his Memory. It was left that the Committee work meetings continue for the 1993 project with the Slides and pictures. It was suggested that as much time as possible be spent in January. Most of this work to be carried out at the home of Tim Crawford who has set up lighted tables for the slides and pictures.
