HISTCRY COMMITTEE liEETING Townshif of Oro-Medonte

The Townshi~ of Oro History Committee met this afternoon at the
Township Administration Building (now ~ownship of Oro-Medonte) in the
Committee Room at 7:30 p.m. All members having been notified by tele-
phone. The meeting Was called by the Chairperson.
Before the meeting commenced the Secretary advised that Earl Robertson,
a Committee member, had been in Hos;ital with a broken hip and had
also taken ~neumonia. He is now at home recovering. A get well card
and a fruit basket had been taken to him, pS well as a visitation.
Secretary also presented a Thank You Note from Earl Robertson.

The meeting was opened by the Chairperson at 7:45 p.m.
Minutes:
The Minutes of the last regular meeting held on November 2,
1993, were on motion of Tim Crawford and Jadeen Henderson
ado~ted as printed and received. Copies of the Minutes
had been forwarded to all members.

Business arising from the Minutes
Ca) The Chairperson re~orted on attending a meeting of Council along
with Jadeen Henderson with respect to the fourth proposed Logo
and presentè.tion of art work for same as recomme'nded by the History
Committee. Also further that Councillor Joanne Crokam along with.
a Cocmercial Artist had made some revisions to the Art work and
they would be presenting same to the Chair;erson at her home on
Tuesday, January 18, 1994.
(b) Report of Council's response to letter from Joanna ~cEwen to
Oro Council with respect to signs "Knox Corner" on both sides of
the intersection of the ninth line on the Olè Barrie Road.
No. response has become available to this Committee.
(c)
The Chai~uerson advised that the Council had approved the request
of the History Committee the sale of The Story of Oro to retail
outlets at arate of $8.00, provided that at least ten books were
purchased
It was moved by Walter Hutchinson and seconded by Tim Crawfor«
that the reports as presented be received and noted.

(a)
Se~retary presented a copy of Memo to Oro Council re: letter to
be forwarded to CBC from Oro Council with respect to program
featuring the Township of Oro focussing on how ordinary people
have gatfiered their History and requesting the CBC Network to
re-broadcast the show, which has been aired on Cable, on a ne
not ava rural viewer, on such a ogram as C

Presented copy of memo to the Townshi~ ~re~surer r?questiLg
Oro Council a~prove ~ayment and forward a cheque to Twin Lakes
Secondary School in the amount of $IOO, being the cost of film
and studio time for the project of transferring Slides to Video.
Presented co~y of Notice of the Township of Oro, as placed in
Huronla Sunday, December 5,1993, entitled "Thanks" - Oro Council
wished to recognize all individuals and aprointees who had
served the Municipality in the last twenty years. Also recognizing
all Societies and Organizations, Boards and Committees, etc.
The notice also extended an invitation to all to attend the
last meeting of the Township of Oro which was held on December 15,
1993. Copy of the Agenda for this meeting is attached.
It was moved by Walter Hutchinson and secoLded by Tim Crawford
that the correspondence and notice as presented and action taken
regarding same be accepted as satisfactory and be filed for
future reference.
Old and Unfinished Business
History

Tim Crawford presented a Report on the Oro ~ownship
Committee's Project with Oro School children at the
along with with recommendations for future projects
regard, should they be continued by the Fair Board.
The Ad Hoc Committee for the Project was - Tim Crawford,
Jadeen Henderson and Earl Robertson.

New Business

A proposed Budget for the History Committee for 1994 was
considered by the Committee, and after discussion it was
moved by Tim Craw~ord 2nd seconded by Jadeen Henderson that
a Budget for the History Committee for 1994 be submitted to
the now Oro-Medonte Council for an amount of $2000 (1800 for
projects and 200 for material, rostage, etc) with request
for arproval, provided that Council rropose the continuance
of a History Committee and ap~oint members to same for the
restructured Oro-Medonte Township.
Names of Committee members recommednded for appointment be
submitted to the Oro-Medonte Council for approval.
It was moved by walter Hutchinson and seconded by Tim Crawford
that the following names be submitted:

Bernice Hickling ~arl Robertson
Walter Hutchinson Jadeen Henderson
Henry Neufeld
It is suggested th~t the Executive of the Medonte Hist orical
Society could be appointed as members of the History Committee
for History Committee for the Townshir of Oro-Medonte, or any 4IÞ
other members of the Society.
It is further suggested th~t the

with any pro~osals programmed, and if necessary the whole
Ccmmittee as artÖinted meet to approve of joint programs to
be ~resented to the Oro-Medonte Council. Provided of course
that the Medonte Historical Society wish to ~artici~ate in
such a venture.
The foregoing resolution and recom~endations are forwarded
subject to Oro-Medonte Council a~lroving the appointment of a
History Committee.

Projects for 1994
- left for next meeting
Jadeen Henderson the matter of preserving the old Guthrie
School Building which is to be demolished when extension to
the Guthrie School, as prorosed by Simcoe County Board of
Education in 1994 or 1995. This matter has been considered
by members in the Community.
It was left that Jadeen Henderson endeavour to arrange to
obtain a key to the building pfter which members of the
Committee are to meet to see whether the building is at
all moveable before any further action is rroposed.
