September ll, 1995
The Township of Oro-fuedonte History Committee met this evening at
the Township Administration Building in the Committee Room, in
accordance with the resolution passeà at the last regular meeting
held on June 12,1995. Lembers had been contacted by telepnone as ~.'¡ell.

The Chairman opened the meeting at 7:30 p.m.
The lliinutes of the last regular meeting held on June 12,
1995 were on motion of Walter Hutchinson and Jadeen
Henderson adopted as printed and received.

Presented a letter from the Clerk of the Township advising that
Council had directed that Mrs. Beverley Hunter be appointed to
the Township of Oro-Medonte History Committee as recommended by
the Committee. Secretary advised that Loreen (Rice) Lucas was
to advise furs. Beverley Hunter about this meeting. However she
had been unable to reach her by telephone. Letter further advises
that Complimentary copies of the story of Bro had been forwarded
to the Schools as suggested by the Committee. The four former
Oro Schools had previously received copies so no additional
copies had been forwarded at this time.
Secretary presented copy of letter forwarded to Mr. Glen Parker,
Burlington, Ontario, as directed at the last meeting on June l2,
1995, forwarding a Township map indic~ting The E~ lot 5, Con. 11,
~rown land granted to John Nash in l847 (family ancestors of Ilir.
Parker. Also indicated on the map waS part lot 10, Con. 9.,
which is the Knox Presbyterian Church and Cemetery. Mr. Parker
was of the opinion that John Nash had been buried in this Cemetery.
This letter was in response to Mr. Farker's enq~iry of June 4/95.
A reply was received on September ll,1995 acknowledging his
appreciation for the information received.
As result of the presentation of the letter aforementioned to
the meeting. The Committee directed that copies of the letters
be added as an Appendix to the Minutes of this meeting.
The Chairman reported re: cmrrespondnce with respect to the
African Episcopel Methodist Church by the Township Solicitor
an replies from descendants of original members of the ~hurch,
naming some members mentioned in the Story of Ora. Cop~es of
same m~y become available once the Township S?lititor and.
Council authorize release of same as informat~on to the Comm~ttee.
The Chairman. also mentioned of a telephone conversation with
Carolyn Wilson from Collingwood, who is well acqainted wit~
the Church in Question and has attended many Memor Serv~ces.

It was moved by Earl Robertson and seeonded by Mary Garbutt that
the Correspondence and Communications as presented be receicred
and all copies of same be filed for future reference.

Attendance at the Mary Garbutt Log Cabin on July 10, 1~95
Was reported on by the members that h~d been able to do so.
Everyone enjcyed the time and found it of great Historical
interest. Video and other pictures were taken en the site.
Report on members of the Committee attending the Richard's
Earm Equipment Hepitage Day on August 12, 1995. The Committee
again patticipated by display of Antique Tools and Utensils.
About a 2 hour Video waS taken by Tim Crawford of the various
events of the day.
It was moved by Loreen (Rice) Lucas and seconded by Earl
Robertson that a vote of thanks and appreciation be
extended to Tim Crawford for c:is time and effort in taking
the Video rictures for record purposeá.
Tim Crawford and Jadeen Henderson as last year attended a
day at the Oro Fair Grounds in June when the Oro Agricultural
Society rut on a day for the four schools in Oro on Agriculture.
Tim Crawford and Jadeen Henderson rarticipated on behalf of
the Oro-Medonte History Committee and gave a demonstration on
Antique Household utensils and articles as well as some antique 4IÞ
farm and agricultural tools.
It was brought up for consider~tion that it was becoming a
great effort to bring all the antique toos and equipment to
the Heritage Day at Richards Farm every year and a suggestion
was made that possibly this should only take place every two
or three years. Some Committee members have put a great deal
of timw and hard work into transporting and arrangements of
displays for the day.
Report on the History Committeeattendance at Oro Memorial Park
on Canada Day. The Committe again participated by display
of publications and Historical pictures. Attendance this year
was down, possibly due to it being on a Saturday.
Report on Video Projects - mostly all has been reported,
other than that someone from TV Ontario had telephoned the Twp.
Office regarding Videos on Rural Areas in Oro-Medonte. The
Chairman advised that following a telephone call he had made
two trips to Moonstone to take Video pictures in the area and
had also had an interview of a long time resident of the Area,
with Mr. Howard Robinson. No further word has been received
from TV Ontario since the taking of the Video pictures.
The Secretary advised that on the ocassion of the l50th
Anniversary of Knox £resbyterian Church on Sunday June 25/95,
a number of Township Publications had been sold - 4 Story of
Oro; 9 Hills of Oro and l7 Knox History.
Also for the ocassion the Knox Trustees had obtained 12 dozen
plates to commemorate the l50th Anniversary and that since
lO dozen more had been ordered. As on the ocassion of the lOOth
Anniversary the Moderator of tea presbyterian ch of Canada

~ary Garbutt reported on the Anniversary Service at the Coulson
United Church held on Sunday July 30, 1995. Some members of
the Committee attended and Tim Crawford :-:ad ta~'~en Video Video
tape of the ocassion.
New Business
Preparation for attendance at the Oro World's Fair and display at
the Fair on September l5 and l6, 1995 was brought forward for
consideration. Location on the grounds has been arranged in the
same area as last year. Obtaining a Mobile Trailer has been looked
into. It is propsed to have a similar display of Antique tools and
equipment as last with some ~hanges of same. Also the Township
publications will be diplayed as in previous years, as ~ell as
some pictures and a Scrap Book. Set up to be around 1J;30 or ll;OO a.m.
It waw suggested that Committee mèmbers should take rart in reviewing
the proposed Township of O~o-~edonte New Official Flan.
It was also brought forward that the History eommittee should
request space in the Township News Letter to present the actions
of the History Committee during the year.
There being no further Business at hand it was moved by Walter
Hutchinson that the meeting adjourn to meet again on fuonday,
October 16, 1995 at 7:30 p.m.
