10 16 1995 History Minutes 8 THE TOWNSHIP OF ORO-~ŒDONTE HISTORY COMMITTEE MEETING - October l6, 1995 The Township of Oro-Medonte His~ory Committee met this evening at the Township Administration Building in the Committee Room, in accordance with the resolution passed at the last regular meeting held on September ll, 1995. :absent The following members were present: Tim Crawford Earl Robertson Loreen (Rice) Lucas Jadeen Henderson Henry Neufeld Beverley Hunter Walter Hutchinson Bernice Hickling Mary Garbutt Carl Camretelli By the Chairman at 7:35 P.m. The Minutes of the last regular meeting held on September ll, 1995 were on motion of Earl Robertson and Walter Hutchinson adopted as printed and received. Opening: Minutes Business arising from the Minutes - meeting of September ll, 1995 The Chairman made mention of the African Church issue and su¡ort from the Collingwood Black History Association. Also the visit to Collingwood by most members of the History Committee, which had proved to be very interesting. Correspondence and Communications 8 (a) (b) Old (a) 8 (a) Copies of letters forwarded to Mrs. Beverley Hunter and Mrs. Daisy Wilson advising of the next regular meeting of the History Committee to be held on October l6, 1995. The Chairman advised that he had spoken to Mrs. Daisy Wilson by telephone and she nad advised that she was unable to act on the Committee. Mrs. Beverley Hunter attended her first meeting. Secretary rep~ted that he had received a telephone call from Mrs. Marion Drury advising that she had a number of pictures of the African Church and that the pictures were available to the History Committee and requested that wömeone pick them up. It was left tha Jadeen Henderson and Walter Hutehinson pick up the pictures. .It was moved by~Ja.deenHenderson and seconded by Loreen (Rice) Lucas that the Correspondence and Communications be received and filed for reference. Report on History Committee participation at the Oro World's Fair - Septemver and 16th 1995. Loreen (Rice) Lucas reported that approEimately $200 worth of publications were sold during the two days at the Fair. Committee members received suggestions Committee expand their story - .:: - (Cont'd) 1 . ' It ¡¡as felt by the Committee members that in order to exl-,and the displays additional help would be needed, in order that antique,material and utensils could be looked after, as well as the time required to gather and transport same. Another brought forward was whether the Committee should be considering attending at the Coldwater Fair, since t~e former Medonte people have been ~ore or less attending that as their Fair, and if so Medonte material and Community photos should be sought for display along with the Oro publications and Cõmmuhl~ Photo books. (h\ ~) The Chairman advised that a 45 Minute Video tape of the 1995 Oro Fair was now available. (d) The memo re; material for Townshi~ Newsletter was considered and it was left that material to be gathered for inclusion in the newsletter for the History Committee to be put togerther for review at the next regular meeting on November 13, 1995. New Business A copy of a lett8r to the Township Elanning Consultants with copy of same to the Township regardingthe Township Official Plan Review waS considered by the Cou~ittee members. Some further suggestions if any are to be brought forward. Several other matters were discussed in as far as future projects for the Committee - such as preparing a publication or booklet on 'The Way It Was in the 19201SI, which would also include a Map of property owners during that era. There being no further business at hand it was moved by Walter Hutchinson that the meeting adjourn at approzimately 9:l5 p.m. to meet again at the Administration Building on November l3, 1995, at 7:30 p.m. Henry Neufeld Secretary Tim Crawford, Chairman 8 8 8
