02 16 1998 History Minutes . . . MINUTES OF MEETING OF ORO-MEDONTE HISTORY COMMITTEE FOR FEB. 16, 1998 In attendance: Tim Crawford (chair), Jadeen Henderson, Walter Hutchinson, Eunice Johnston, Sheila Kirkland, Loreen Lucas, George Monkman. Minutes of last meeting were distributed and correction made. Motion to accept by Jadeen Henderson, seconded by Loreen Lucas. Carried. Business Arising: 1. Black's Camera will scan 1000 pictures onto disc for a cost of $1650. This includes the price of the disc. 2. The money once offered by the museum for a plaque at Hawkstone is no longer available. 3. Karen Sanson and Joan Fletcher have agreed to join the committee. George Monkman also agreed to join and was in attendance. New Business: It was agreed that the committee should approach Ron Summers to take a delegation to council with three proposals. A. We would like to erect three plaques over the next three years; the first one in Hawkstone, secondly on the historic road in Medonte, and finally in Shanty Bay. B. Request for funds to produce computer disc of archival pictures. C. Present our book as a "millennium project". ¡V1"\l2. Y aA~E::Þ;.ïT Mfli i. II I ûarbout will be approached about historic sites in Medonte for future plaques. The next township newsletter will print information about the proposed book and a form that can be attached to any material sent to the committee. Tim Crawford called all the schools in the former Oro township offering to speak to the students during black history month. He is using Gary French's book Men of Colour as a reference work. Eunice Johnston will accompany Tim Crawford to Shanty Bay school on Feb. 27 at 1 pm. *Note ifinterest: there are ten or twelve pages in the book Black's in Canada on the Oro settlement. A letter from Steve Gilchrist of Washington State, requesting a copy of the Story ofOro. He offers to pay for shipping charges incurred. He also requested a look at the 1859 minutes book of Presbyterian church when he visits the area. Walter Hutchinson has copies of these. Motion to adjourn at 8:30 by Walter Hutchinson.
