Tim Crawford, Jadeen Henderson, George Monkman, and Walter Hutchinson attended council meeting to introduce the committee to new members of council, and notify them of our three point program as discussed last month. This meeting of our delegation with council is now in council minutes and our proposals will be considered when the budget is produced. Several councilors thanked the committee for their attendance. 2. Tim Crawford, Walter Hutchinson and Earl Robertson met with Anna Milligan to discus publicity for the millennium book. Anna Milligan has been hired by council to produce the quarterly newsletter that goes out to all residents ofthe township. Anna will design a coupon for the next quarterly that can be used by anyone responding to our request for information to be published in the millennium book. 3. Council gave the delegation the names of three people who might be interested in sitting on the history committee. Sheila Kirkland will call these people and invite them to attend our next meeting. 4. Tim Crawford faxed information on the millennium book to Murray Martin for publication in the Oro-Medonte Severn News. 5. Tim Crawford took photographs of the Gilchrist farm, and has forwarded them to Steve Gilchrist along with some ceder seeds from the ceders growing along the lane. 6.The subcommittee, has removed everything from the vault to Loreen Lucas' residence for sorting. Each item will be numbered and filed by category. A catalogue will then be produced and placed on computer disc. This will greatly facilitate any researcher. New business: Tim Crawford asked Linda Achen for the file on the Aftican church. It contains the deed ofland transfer from Oro to Oro-Medonte. The meets and bounds used in the deed of transfer are stated to be taken from Instrument #8576. It was noted that Instruments are now have six digit numbers, so the four digit number indicates the age of that document. Other items in the file are photocopies of a minute book from a meetings of ministers: in 1875 there were 16 children in Sunday school and 22 members, in 1891 there were 9 members, and the property was listed as abandoned in 1916. Another sheet from 1879 lists the congregation as one that owed money for the circuit preacher. Another lists the estate value as $1.50 These items were viewed with great interest. . Jadeen Henderson proposed having a commemorative plate that can be sold at the 150th anniversary of the Aftican church to be celebrated in the spring of 1999. Walter Hutchinson will . . . find out how much it will cost for the initial order. Jadeen Henderson received a request from the Fall Fair committee in finding items to be displayed in the children's building in commemoration of it's 50th armiversary. It was decided that history committee would sponsor an essay contest. A copy of Hills of Oro will be given to first, second and third place winners along with a certificate. The essay will be on a senior's memories of the children's fair 50 years ago. Next meeting will be April 20 at the Township office. Motion to adjourn by Walter Hutchinson.
