Minutes of Oro-Medonte History Committee Meeting, Sept 07, 1999
Business Items
Present: Geoffrey Booth, Tim Crawford (chairman), Mary Garbutt, Jadeen Henderson, Walter Hutchinson,
Eunice Johnston (recording secretary), Sheila Kirkland, Loreen Lucas, Earl Robertson, welcome to Allan Howard.
Minutes oflast meeting approved as read; moved by Sheila, seconded by Jadeen. Carried
Meetings will be held on the second Tuesday of the month at the township office, time 7:30
Those dates are October 12, November 09, December
Action Items
01"0 Fair
" complaint from other vendors that last years display was to large
.. this years display booth will be set up in the Marion Keith building
" on display will be scrapbooks, photos, cameras, kaleidoscope/view master
" also a map of Hawkestone
.. A sign asking for information and an identification sheet will accompany photos
" Loreen will sort the photos
.. Geoff, Tim, Walter and Loreen will work at booth
" Tickets were handed out to those working at the fair
.. Pins are required for four new committee members
Coldwater Fair September 25
.. Use three sided booth for display
" Display will concentrate on the centennial book Memories ofMedonte
" Use old Tweedmiur, maps, family albums and draft of book to stimulate interest
.. Banner asking for information about families not yet researched
.. Also printed item to handout
Storage area
.. Antiques, tools, and other artifacts are currently in private hands
" Medonte township papers are the Simcoe County Archives
.. Jadeen has talked to several people willing to donate more items
-one man has railroad artifacts
In two months time family of Henry Newfeld will dispose of his private collection
Items from Mrs. Burton are currently stored at Earl Hutchinson's home
Each member of the committee agreed on the following:
storage is needed for the items already collected
items offered should be accepted when offered.
items should be sorted and indexed

Information items
Medonte book
.. Tim and Jadeen have been going door to door in villages gathering information
. 250 photos have been taken and will be added to the archives
.. Colson, Craighurst and Warminster are finished
Fair Valley is to be the site of a celebration by the Lord Strathcona Regiment organized by Sam Steele. The
tombstones will be refurbished, a plaque will be unveiled and a flag pole erected for the RCMP flag.
Reports
.. the history of Ora African Church is selling well, council has received 50% of investment
. copies of the book have been given to the libraries of area most schools; Hillsdale not done
.. girl guide camp has backed out of the deal to place historic plaque on their land at Hawkestone
.. application to have Amcan Church designated a national historic site is under consideration
.. Ontario Black History Society thanked the committee for the anniversary celebration in June and they
especially Tim for guiding the tour
a writer from Scotland requesting information on Scottish immigrants was sent copies of The Story of
Oro and Kith and Kin
