HISTORY CO~~ITTEE MEETING
June 17,1993
The Township of Oro History Committee met this evening at the
Township of Oro Administration Building in the Board Room.
All members having notified by telephone.
The following members were present:
Loreen (Rice) Lucas
Bernice Hickling
Henry Neufeld
Walter Hutchinson
Earl Robertson
Tim Crawford
Jadeen Henderson
Absent:

Opening:
The Chairperson opened 'the meeting at 8:30 p.m.
(The Committee members had spent an hour working
on the booklet liThe Hills of Oro and other Pioneer
Landmarks" - pasting the map and index sheet into
the back of the booklet)
Minutes:
The Minutes of the last regular meeting held on
May 18,1993, a copy of which had been frowarded to
all members, were on motion of Tim Crawford and
Bernice Hickling adopted as printed and received.
Corres~ondence:

Presented copy of letter forwarded to Dyment Stubley
Printers accepting their quotation to print the
Booklet "the Hills of Oro and Other Pioneer Landmarks"
for a total cost of $900 plus G.S.T., for 1000 copies.
Presented Memo fromthe Clerk, Township of Oro forward-
ing resolution of Council authorising the Simcoe County
School Board to duplicate copies of the "Hills of Oro
and other Pioneer Landmarks", booklet, as may be re-
quired for Class Room use within the schools and that
the Board pay for all costs of publishing the Teacher's
Manual, and further that the Township of Oro be provi-
ded with at least 15 copies of the manual, one for each
member of the Committee, withthe remaining balance to
be kept for reference. Memo also requests that the
contact person of Simcoe County Board of Education be
advised accordingly.

Fresented copy of letters forwarded to Simcoe County
Council forwarding recommendation of the History
Committee in 1984 to designate the Penetang Road, #93
Hiehway as a Heritage Road, along with the Township
of Oro History Committee recommendation for the proposal
to designate the Highway, as part of a Bicentennial
initiative in 1984.
Also copy of letter from the County of Simcoe, Clerk,
forwarding Report ~13 of the Roads and Transportation
Committee of the County of Simcoe, supporting same.

After consideration C?f the communication and proposal of
the Committee in 1984, the present Township of Oro History
Committee again recommend that the Council of the Township
of Oro again pursue the County of Simcoe to further consider
the proposal as presented in 1984, and approved by the Roads
and Transportation Committee of County, and then petition
the Province of Ontario to designate #93 Highway as a Heritage
Road, from Barrie to penetang, since this would appear to
be a good project during the County's celebration of 150 years
of service.

As result of above consideration the following resolution
was Passed by the Committee: It was moved by Earl Robertson
and secDnded by Bernice Hickling -
That the Secretary forward the following resolution to Oro
Council: 'That the Township of Orc History Committee
recommend Oro Council persue the recommendation and proposal
of the 1984 Township of Oro History Committee, as submitted
March 23,1984, to the Warden and Council of Simcoe Co~~ty.
Along with Report #13 of the County of Simcoe Roads and
Transportation Committee supportingthe proposal to designate
#93 Highway as a Heritage Road.'
New Business:

The matter of selling price of the Booklet - "The Hills
of Oro and Other Pioneer Landmarks" was considered and
the following resolution was passed:
It was moved by Walter Hutchinson and seconded by Tim
Crawford that the Township of Oro History Committee reco-
mend that the 500klet "The Hills of Oro and Other Pioneer
Landmarks" be sold for the sum of 1t3.00, including applicable
Taxes. And further that a copy be sent to the Orillia
and Barrie Public Libraries and other Libraries that may
request one. Also a copy be forwarded to the County of
Simcoe and County Archives.

It was suggested that the price of all Oro Publications
be reviewed by the Committee at the next regular meeting,
as well as outlets for the sale of same.

Each member of the Committee received a Booklet, signed
by all members present.
A booklet was signed by all members for presentation to
each member of Council.
All members of the Committeè took 5 copies of the Booklet,
to have available for sale.
There being no further matters before the Committee it
was moved by Walter Hutchinson that the meeting adjourn 4IÞ
at 9:45 p.m., to meet again at the call of the Chairperson.

After consideration of the quotations received, the
Committee accepted your verbal quotation with the followin¡
motion:
"After consideration of the quotations received it was
moved by Tim Crawford and seconded by Jadeen Henderson
that the quotation from Dyment-Stubley Printers Ltd.
be accepted for the printing of 1000 copies of the
Booklet - tlHills of Oro and other Pioneer Landmarks"
for a total cost of 8900.00, ~lus G.S.T., and further
that this resolution be presented to Oro Council for
approval of payment by the Treasurer when the printing
of the~booklet has been completed."
Accordingly your verbal quotation has been accepted
and this letter is authorization to have the booklet printed.
the original copy of the booklet as prepared is enclosed
herewith. The Committee would request that the map.coe inserted
at the back of the booklet, not front or centre.
