April 29,1993
The Township of Oro History Committee met this evening at the Township
of Oro Administration Building in the Board Room. All members having
been notified by telephone
The follosing members were present:

The Chairperson opened the meeting at 7:35 p.m.
The Minutes of the last regular meeting held on March 11,
1993, which had been copied for all members, were on
motion of Earl Robertson and Tim Crawford adopted as
printed and received.

Correspondence and Communications

Presented a Memo from the Clerk of the Township of Oro forwarding a
copy of leter from the County of Simcoe Museum requesting biographical
information on the 7 Wardens ffom the Township of Oro. The purpose
of same being for inclusion in the celebration of the County of Simcoe
150 years of service. ~he Museum is organizing a major display on the
Wardens of Simcoe County from 1843 to present.

The Secretary had compiled some information an each of the Wardens
and Committee members are to add any additional inforaation obtained
or to be received in order that same may be completed and returned to
the Township Clerk for prewentation to Oro Council and forwarding to
Simcoe County Museum.

It was moved by Henry Neufeld and seconded by Tim Crawford that the
biographicäl information and specific accomplishments or anecdotes
for each of the Wardens as completed or to be added, be returned to
the Township Clerk for necessary action and forwarding to the County
of Simcoe Museum as requested for the major display of the Wardens of
Simcoe County from 1843 to present, as part of the celebration of the
County of Simcoe's 150 years of service.
Presented a letter from the Deputy Clerk who is also the Secretary of
the Oro Canada Committee, as an invitation to the History Committee to
participate in the Annual Festivities at Oro Memorial Park on ~hursday,
July 1,1993. The invitation is fof members of the Committee to attend
display the numerous excellent photos accumulated over the years
along with all the historical publications and pamphlets. The letter
requests a reply as to the Committee participation.

The booklet "Hills of Oro and Other Pioneer Landmarks" was again
presented for final review before rrinting of same.
The Cha~rperson advised that she had been working with Tim Crawford
with the corrections and additions which had been sugge~t by
Wélter Hutchinson and E~rl Robertson when reviewing some of the art
work, regarding the display of harness and various other items that
are ti!> app ear, in the booklet. The booklet as revised was presented
for review ö~edited by Tim Crawford and re-read by the Chairperson.
~he Chdir~erson advised that she had attended a meeting of Council
to present the contents of the Booklet for their approval to have
the booklet printed and suggestions as to what Printers to use or
whether it could be prepared on Township equipment. Council had
suggested that the booklet be done be Printers. The Township Clerk
is to give a list of ß1nting places used by the Township. She had
also advised Council that the Simcoe County Board of Education had
indicated an interest to print the Booklet upon approval that they
could reprint same for use in the County schools in their ciriculum,
for Oro Schools and possibly other schools in the County. 7he
Council hâd indicated that the printing should be done by a Printing
firm. After consideration and further discussion the following
actioL ~as taken:
Moved by Tim Crawford and seconded by Earl Robertson that it is
the intent of the History Committee to recommend to Oro Council
that we provide the Simcoe County Board of Education the right to
duplicate as many copies of the booklet as are ne~essary for Class
room use, within the schools of Simcoe County Board of Education,
and that the Board pay fo~~ll costs of publishing the Teacher's
Mannual, and thæt the Township mf Oro be provided with at least
l5 copies of the resulting Manual, one for each member of the
History CoIT~ittee, with the balance kept on file for reference.
Tim Crawford and Loreen L~cas are to complete.the booklet as has
now been finally reviewed, for printing of same.
The Chairperson is to obtain names of printing firms from the Town-
ship Clerk and arrange for contacting the firms for quotations and
times by which the printing can be completed.
Earl Robe~tson advised that he had contacted John Moore with respect
to the enquiry about the Hardie family and that John Moore has
corresponded with Brenda Ruffet who had made the enquiries about the
members of the Hardie family.
Judeen Henderson advised that she had spoken to r~S. Gilly Ayers
(Edna Johnston) regarding the enquiry by Dianne Childs about her
Great Grandfather Lauclan Galbraith and his son Donald. It ~ppears
that both had drwoned in Bass Lake while bathing. The Johnston
Dairy which WaS the enquiry ob, by Dianne childs is in the hands of
Mrs. Gilly Ayers. Jwdeen Henderson had replied to Dianne Childs
and given her the address of Mrs. Ayers who had agreed to coresspond
with Dianne Childs wish to make some enquiries regarding same.
There being no further business at hand it was moved by Earl
Robertson that the meeting adjourn at 9:45 p.m.
