MINUTES OF THE ORO-MEDONTE RECREATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING
HELD THURSDAY JANUARY 13, 1994
AT 7:00 P.M., COMMITTEE ROOM

Meeting called to order by Deborah Broderick @ 7:00 p.m.
Introductions made and all members welcomed.

Deputations:
a)
Guest Speaker, Glen Campbell, Speakers Bureau re:
Recreation As An Essential Service;
In the presentation, the importance of recreation was
stressed and shown that when marketed correctly recreation
is an essential service. The ways in which recreation is
approached and more specifically the benefits of leisure
are: a) Personal Benefits, b) Social Benefits, c) Economic
Benefits, and d) Environmental Benefits were highlighted
individually and the initiatives required to develop these
benefits were itemized.

Election of a Chairperson
Moved by Norm Dalziel
That Paul Patchell be Nominated as Chairperson for this
Committee.
Moved by Alastair Crawford, Seconded by Nancy Stoddart
That nominations be closed.
Carried.
Mr. Paul Patchell accepted the position and the newly
elected Chairperson took the Chair.
Moved by Robert Drury
That Daphne Mainprize be Nominated as Vice Chairperson.
Moved by Robert Drury, seconded by Alastair Crawford
That nominations for Vice Chairperson be closed.
Carried.
Ms. Daphne Mainprize accepted the position.

Disclosure of pecuniary Interest and the General Nature

Disposition of Recommendations to Council from the December
2, 1993 Meeting.

Parks & Recreation supervisor Monthly Report
a)
Copy of Mandate;
A copy of the Mandate was supplied with the Agenda and
Deborah requested the Committee to review same for
discussion in the month of February.
b)
Review of ongoing Projects;
Verbal information and a brief overview supplied to the
Committee with questions such as ice time availablity being
answered by Deborah. Contracts with neighbouring
municipalities and the structure of Oro Minor Hockey was
discussed.
1)
Hard Ball League;
Meeting scheduled for January 25th at the Arena @ 7:30
p.m.
2)
Community Hall Board Meeting;
Meryl, Alastair, and Norm volunteered to attend this
meeting as representatives from the Recreation
Committee. The suggestion put forth that an
alternative method of bookkeeping be recommended to the
Medonte Halls and a brief history on the Medonte Halls
was provided to the Committee. Some methods of funding
such as co-sponsors was discussed. It is expected that
the Halls will be requested to submit their individual
financial needs in the near future.
Gary Cunnington left the meeting @ 9:15 p.m. due to a prior
committment.

other Business:
a)
Deborah directed to delete the word grievances from
section 14 of the Ice User Rules.
b)
Warden's picnic to be held at Oro Memorial Park on June
17, 1994 and the Committee invited to plan this family
orientated event.
c)
Guthrie School BBQ expected to be held at Oro Memorial
Park sometime in June.

d)
Paul indicated that he hopes the Committee will
endeavour to make recreation a source of pride in this
newly formed municipality and to encourage volunteers
towards the provision of leisure services.
e)
Recreation Committee Meetings will be held the 1st
Thursday of the month @ 7:00 p.m.
