* MINUTES OF THE HISTORY COMMITTEE MEETING HELD ON APRIL 1, 1986 IN THE COUNCIL
CHAMBERS OF THE MUNICIPAL BUILDING

History Committee met at 7:35 p.m. with the following members present:
Joanna McEwen, Howard Campbell, Ruth Fraser, Jean Cameron, Marlene Mawdsley,
and Henry Neufeld
Also present:
Reeve Robert E. Drury
The meeting was opened by Joanna McEwen at 7:35 p.m.
Joanna McEwen reviewed the proposal for designation of Highway No. 93 (Penetang
Road) for which the Reeve was present since he proposes to again pursue the
matter through the County and before doing so wanted as much past information
as possible as to what steps had been taken at what stage the matter was left
at.
Discussion
Procedure of preparing a documentation along with slides which could firstly
be presented to the Reeves of the municipalities involved and then to the
Ministry through the County Committee.
Story of Oro
What changes should be made to the "Story of Oro" for re-printing:
t
- some changes to Negro write up
- churches - same as write up presently being prepared
- more photographs relevant to areas involved in the changes
- suggested approaches for re-printing were discussed
(a) use people in the community throughout the Township
Strategy
Go into the community to pick volunteers - suggested persons:
Howard Campbell, Ruth Fraser, Isobel Laurence, Marlene Mawdsley, Joanna McEwen,
Mrs. H. Dunn, Jean Kendall, Loreen Lucas, Besse Crawford, Rose Mary Dunsmore,
Bernice Hickling, Marg Watson, Faye Craig, Sadie Walker, Henry Neufeld, Walter
& Phylis Hutchinson, Ross & Effie Currie, Smith & Isobel Campbell
- photographs every page and a half (

An update of the road system be included in teh re-printing of the Story of

On motion of Howard Campbell seconded by Marlene that Howard Campbell, Ross
Currie and Henry Neufeld prepare an update of transportation for the Story of
Ora.

Other members of the History Committee assigned various areas of the Story of
Oro to review and update. Marlene Mawdsley to meet with Harry Wrigley for
fackground on Carthew Bay area.
The next meeting of the History Committee is scheduled for April 22, 1986 at
7:30 p.m.
