MEETING

The Township of Oro History Committee met this evenine at
the call of the Chairman at the home of Mrs. Joanna McEwen
with the followine members present:

The meetine was opened at 7:45 p.m. The Chairman
advised that the purpose of the meetine was to receive a
report on the status of the printine of the Update of the
story of Oro and to discuss format of advertisine of the
Boo~ once a definite date of delivery is received from the
Printers.

Joanna McEwen and Henry Neufeld reported OA the status
of the proeress at the Printers.
Joanna McEwen advised that the last w02d from Dyment
Stubley Printers was that the book is supposed to be eoine
to print on Mond~y, Nove mber 30th, 1987 and that the press
was continue runnine for a week to complete it, after which
a number of copies would be shipped to Toronto for perfect
bindine. The Printers had indicated that copies of the book
should be available around December 18th. 1987.
The Chairman acknowledeed the report as received and
that it be so noted, and that the same two members to continue
to pursue the printine of the book with the Printers and
press the ureency of completion in order to have the pub-
lication available to the Public for Christmas.
MINUTES
It was moved by Walter Hutchinson and seconded by Ruth
Fraser that the mlDntes of the last reeular meetine held
on September 8,1987, be adoped as printed and received.
Communications

The Secretary presented a letter from the Administrator/
Clerk forwardine resolution of Oro Council reeardine the
sale of the publications, recommendine that the price for
the Update for the story of Oro be $10.00 per book and
that in quantities of 10 or more copies the price be $8.00;
and the book entitled 'Kith 'n Kin be sold at a price of
$15.00 per book.

On motion of McEwen and Key that the letter from Oro
Council advisin¡ that the recommeded price for the Update
of the Story of Oro be adopted at the rate of $10.00 per
book and for quantities of ten or more be $8.00 per book.
and further that the book entitled 'Kith 'n Kin' be set
at $15.00 per book.
The matter of advertisin¡ the publication once it
is completed by the Printers was discussed and ¡reat len¡hh
with various su¡¡estions. i.e. that the Local Community
Reporters in the Packet and Times and Barrie Examiner be
requested to mention the availability of the book in their
write-up. Also that the Reporters from all the Local papers
in Barrie and Orillia be contacted for space under Community
and Local news.
Since no definite date is available at the present time
the Chairman advised that the Committee responsible for the
advertia!n¡, as apointed at the meetin¡ of September 8th,
1987, are to follow up with the various su¡¡estions presented
and discussed at this meetin¡.
The Committee also su¡¡est to Oro Couacil that once
coìies of the Update of The Story of Oro are available, at
least 20 copies be placed on cnnsi¡nment basis to each of
the Histor, Committee members, .ince they appear to be
¡eo¡raphically reasonably well situated for convenience,to
the public who may find it more accessible than obtainin¡
the book at the Township Office.

Other Matters
The matter of holdin¡ a Service at the African Episcopal
Methodist Church in 1987 was brou¡ht up for consideration
and discussion and as result the followin¡ resolutions were
passed:'-
Moved by Wallace tey and seconded by Marlene Mawdsley
that the History Committee recommend to Oro Council that a
Service be held at the African Church in 1987, preferrably
on Sunday, June 11th or alternatively June 18th, should the
June 11th date not be suitable to all concerned. It is
further recommended that a letter be forwarded to the Ontario
Black History Society to request that they participate in
the Service and arran¡e for a spe~ker.
Moved by Walter Hutchinson and seconded by Loreen Lucas
that the History Committee are of the opinion that for the
oc.asion of the Service at the African Episcopal Methodist
Church an invitation be extendå. to the Lieutenant Governer
Linclon Alexander to attend as an Hobourary Guestof the
Township of Oro at this occasion. Should Oro Council concur
with this recommendation, an official invitation be forwarded
to the Lieutenant Governer of Ontario and further that a
copy of this invitation be forwarded to the Black History

The Chairman, Howard Campbell introduced the matter of
Hisoric pictures, advisin¡ that he had been approached by a
ratepayer enquirin¡ if the History Committee would be interested
in a picture of an early Hockey tea. of Oro Twonship. This
matter was considered and after- discussion of the picture
and others of Historic value the followtn¡ motion was passed:
Moved by Joanna McEwen and seconded by Loreen Lucas
that the History Committee wish ot enquire of the Oro Township
Council as to what filin¡ space will be made available to the
History Committee at the new Township Office and whether wall
sp~ce could or would be made available for Historic photo¡raphs.
There beih¡ no further business at hand it was moved by
Loreen Rice and seconded by Wallace Key that the meetin¡
adjourn. Time 9:25 p.m.
