07 30 1990 History Minutes THE TOWNSHIP OF ORO HISTORY COMMITTEE MEETING JULY ~0~Q90 8 The Township ot Oro History Committee, at the call of the Chair- person, met this evening at the township ot Oro Administration Building in the Committee Room. All members having been duly notified by telephone. The following members were present: Loreen Rice Lucas Howard Campbell Walter Hutchinson Henry Neufeld Earl Robertson Bernice Hickling' Absent - Neil McNiven Openin¡ Minutes The meeting was opened by the Chairperson at 7:50 p.m. The Minutes of the last regular meeting held on June 20,1990, copies of which had been forwarded to all members, were on motion of Bernice Hickling and sec- onded adopted as printed and received. 8 Business arising trom the Minutes - of tke meeting of June 20, 1990 (a) Secretary reported that further to the letter torwarded on June 21,1990, as a tollow up letter to James H, Matthews and Company Ltd., res Plaque in memory ot Marion Keith. A telephone call had been received from them advising that the price quoted for the Plaque and inscription would remain the same, $381.001 plus Federal and Provincial taxes. Also advised that R & B Trophey, 28 Carlton Street, Orillia was an established Dealer with them. After discussion it was left that the Secretary follow up with the Dealer and order the Plaque with the inscription as forwarded to Matthew and Company, on which the quote was based. (b) Other - none brought forward. Correspondence and Communications Presented the following correspondence as forwarded and received:- (a) Copy of letter to Oro Council regarding the proposed County Restructuring with the Committee's reasons and suggestions why the Township ot Oro should remain as is, and supporting the Council's presentation to the County Restructuring Committee. (a copy of this letter was presented to each Committee Member this evening~ (b) presented copy of letter as torwarded by the Township Deputy- ðlerk to Alan Richardson, Gravenhurst, with respect to famiJyHistory. A letter from Alan Richardson had been presented to the Committee at the last meeting, and suggestions were made which had been passed on to the Deputy-Clerk for reply. . - 2 - (c) Communications as presented earlier at this meetin¡ from Matthew Cankda Ltd., with reference to Plaque for Marian Keitb. 8 (d) Secretary asvised of telephone call from Carline Wilson of the Black History Society in Collin¡wood, with respect artifax discovered on the pro~erty of the proposed Barrie- Oro-Orillia Airport. It was moved by Howard Campbell and seconded by Walter Hutchinson that the Correspondence and Communications as forwarded and received, be accepted as sàtisfactory and filed for reference. Matters discussed with Oro Council at a meeting on July 9,1990 and left in the hands of the Committee for action and report to Council:- Publications - Copies on hand at time of meeting with Council Kith 'n' Kin 520 Story of Oro (second edition) 1161 History Committee to contact various letail Business Stores in the Township regardjn¡ sellin¡ of books. Price to be - Kith ~nr Kin $18.00 Story of Oro $13.00 8 Cost to stores - $10.00 in lots of ten books (for the Story of Oro) Must be sold at 113.00. After discussion it was left that the Chairperson to call at all places of business in the Township of Oro in order to establish whether they would be interested in sellin¡ the Township publications. Book Case - for History Books to be erected in the Foyer of the Administration Ruildin¡ - Committee to obtain cost, It was left that after the Chairperson has made a sketch of a proposed Book Case, Walter Hutchinson to suggest a cost to cønstruct and erec~ Sallie. Pictures of past and present Council's Secretary to contact Twonship Administrator/Clerk and request that this matter be discussed with Council on the same night that the Committee will be attendin¡ a meeting of Council with respect to the Township Chain of Office. Committee suggest the back wall of the Council Chambers. . Mounting of Machine Guns (which at one time had been at the Township Cenotaph - removed to be repaired) Suggested that these be mounted at the west end of the Township on the North and South walls once appropriate shelf and supports have been made. Walter Hutchinson to pursue the construction of same - shelf and mounting. Also brass plates be obtained with pro~er inscription. 8 8 . - 3 - Additional Filin£ Cabinet At the meeting with Council the Reeve had suggested that one was available - to be donated. Bud£et - Committee to submit a Budget for 1991 in January African Church - Maintenance work to be done in 1991. History Committee to include a cost for same in the Budget for 1991. Also Council to be advised of what work is to be done. Pro osal for a Ristor as taken place. Committee after Count Restructurin Reeve ha.d indicated at the meeting with Council that it would seem likely that a History Committee would continue for the area HQ! known as Oro Township. The RistÐry Committee to attend a meeting of Oro Council on September 17th, 1990 (second meeting for September) to present and explain the Township Chain of Office, which had been designed by the Committee and submitted to Oro Council for approval. Also at this meeting the Committee to discuss the placing of ~resent and past Council pictures in the Council Chambers. All members to attend if possible.
