THE TOWNSHIP OF ORO
HISTORY COMMITTEE MEETING
March 12, 1992
The Township of Oro History Committee met this afternoon at the
call of the Chairperson, at the Township of Oro, Administration
Building in the Committee Room. All members having been duly
notified.
The following members were present:
Loreen (Rice) Lucas
Howard A. Campbell
Walter Hutchinson
Bernice Hickling
Neil McNiven
Henry Neuf'eld
Earl Robertson
Tim Crawford
Sandra Shellswell
Opening: - The Chairperson opened the meeting at 2:00 p.m.
Minutes: - The minutes of the last regular meeting of February
13, 1992 were on motion of Howard Campbell and
Earl Robertson adopted as printed and received.

Business arisinq from the minutes:
Comments re: work meeting and progress report on
1992 Project - "Slides with voice comment"
Correspondence and Communications:
a) Copy of letter forwarded to Township Clerk forwarding motion of
History Committee from meeting of February 13,1992 requesting that
Oro Council name and appoint a staff person to work with the
History Committee to accomplish the proj ect of recording and
preparation of all historical documents in the Township Vault for
indexing a data base and filing system on computer.

b) Presented letter from Township Clerk forwarding resolution of
Oro Council advising that the proposed Oro Township History
Committee Budget for 1992 of $3000 has been referred for Budget
deliberation for further consideration and forwarding copy of By-
Law No. 92-16, being a By-Law to appoint members to the Township of
Oro History Committee. All members re-appoointed and adding Tim
Crawford to the Committee. Also, advising that the Deputy Clerk,
Lynda Aiken will provide the Committee with assistance and
direction as required for the History Committee project of the
documentation and recording and preparation of all Historical
Documents in the Township Vault. Also, advising that the Township
is currently participating in a Co-op program throught the Simcoe
County Board of Education and have on staff a Grade 12 student from
Eastview Secondary School, Ms. Michelle Watson, who will be working
with the Township four days a week in the afternoons from now until
the first part of June. She will be available to provide the
clerical assistance as may be required, Lynda Aiken will oversee
the requests and needs of the Committee.

Old and Unfinished Business:
a), Progress on Hills of Oro and Taverns indicated on a Township
map. Committee reviewed the final draft printed out by Tim
Crawford, some spellings were corrected and numbers inserted, also
added information of Tavern room furnishings.
New Business:
"John Ramsey of Kildalton" can be ordered through Loreen Rice.
Moved by Earl Robertson seconded by Howard Campbell
That Joanna and Tim have authority to negotiate an arrangement with
"Twin Lakes" for video taping material, subject to ratification of
this Committee.
Carried.
Moved by Tim crawford, seconded by Walter Hutchinson
The History Committee recommend to Council that they permit, Oro
Vespra Independent paper, to publish excerpts from the story of Oro
on condition that they acknowledge their source and the
availability of the book.
Carried.
Tim gave a brief report on computerizing our material.
Cable TV Channel 10, Trillium in orillia asked if they could do a
half hour program, on our History Committee.
Moved by Earl Richardson, seconded by Howard Campbell
That we will be willilng to co-operate with them when they call.
Carried.
Tim Crawford moved the meeting be adjourned.
