THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWNSHIP OF MEDONTE
Minutes of a Special Public Meeting held under Section 17 of the Planning Act to consider
Amendment 1/ 7 to the Official Plan for the Township of Medonte Planning Area held at
the Moonstone Community Hall on November 4-, 1987 at 7:00 P.M.

Þ the Orillia Packet and Times on October 1, 1987, in the Barrie Examiner on October 1, 1987
and the Midland Times on October 2, 1987. Notice was also mailed on September 30, 1987 to
those people who attended the first public meeting held on September 19, and who requested
notice.

Reev~ Amos çg.1leçL~the meeting to order. He welcomed the approximately 65 people in attendance
and introduced the Council and the Township Planner.

The Clerk outlined the purpose of the meeting. He explained that the meeting would be broken
into three parts, being a formal presentation by the Township Planners, a break to allow people
to study the maps, and a question and answer period. He asked people who wished to comment
on the proposed amendment to submit their comments in writing by November 11 at 5:00 P.M.
Barb Marshall reviewed the Provincial Policies in place to which the amendment must address
itself. Al McNair then reviewed and explained the mapping and the new designations added.
Barb Marshall then explained the new policies in the amendment.
Rf'f'VP Amos adjourned the meeting for a 15 minute period to allow those present time to review
the mapping and to discuss the proposal.
RpPVf' Amos reconvened the meeting and opened the floor for questions.
Dr. T. Hicks asked for an explanation of "accessory apartments" versus "granny flats". Barb
Marshall explained that the accessory apartment would be a permitted use and could be used
for relatives. She explained that people who wanted a "granny flat" could approach Council for
a Temporary Use By-Law under the Planning Act but that this would require a public meeting
and zoning change.

~.D.r. T. Hirks asked whether the proposal for group homes would allow both private or government
run homes. Barb Marshall explained it would but that it would be limited to between 3 to 6
residents and would be limited to homes having a "Housing" function such as a rest home for
senior citizens.

~.Mrs. B. Adamson asked if the accessory apartment had to be for relatives. Barb Marshall
explained that there was no requirements that the apartment be rented to relatives and that
there was no stipulation that the residential structure be owner occupied.
"Reeve Amos asked if there were more questions. When no one indicated they had any questions
he thanked those present for showing interest and attending the meeting and reminded everyone
to get their comments into the Township Office by 5:00 P.M. on November 11.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 P.M.
