Present on behalf of the Insurance Company to make the presentation
were: John Mealing and Norman McKinney.
Mr. John Mealing presented the proposal for the benefit of Council and
the employees based on the present employee coverage and an alternative
program proposal including Group Life A.D. & D., Health Care, Dental
Care, Short Term and Long Term Disability.
After the presentation and a lengthy question period the employees left
to discuss the proposal and returned to further consider the proposal with
council. Several additional questions were asked of Council along with
request for clarification from Mr. Mealing and Mr. McKinney. The main
issue raised by the employees being whether the Township would be assuming
100% or 75% of the cost of the proposed Benefit Plan. After the fielding
of additional questions it was agreed that the apportionment of the cost
be on the basis of 75% Township and 25% employee.
With more questions arising the employees left and Council after further
discussion and review of the proposed plan, the following action was taken:
On motion of Swainson and Sanderson that the present "Sick Leave Benefit
Plan" in effect in the Township of Oro, for employees, be terminated as
of November 1, 1980 in favour of an extended Employee Benefit Plan. And
that the accrued sick benefits be distributed, as determined with each
employee.
On motion of Smith and McLean that the Township of Oro enter into an
Employee Benefit Plan under the County of Simcoe Umbrella Employee Benefit
Programme, which shall include Group Life, A.D. & D., Short term and Long
term DisabilityPlan, Extended Health Care and Dental Care. And, that this
plan be effective November 1, 1980. The basis of the cost of the Plan to
be Township 75% and Employee 25% with the specific intent that the Employee
pay the total cost of the Long Term Disability. And further that the
Municipality in each year provide for 12 half days (6) Days as non-accum-
ulative sick leave.
On motion of McLean and Sanderson that a portion of this plan be made available
to Council members, which shall include Group Life, A.D. & D., Health Care
and Dental.
Several other matters were discussed by Council following the foregoing
consideration and left over for the next regular meeting.
