10 30 1985 Public All Candidate ~ . . . ~ TOWN HALL - OCTOBER 30, 1985 Pg. 231 Public Meeting - All Candidates Clerk called the meeting to order at 8:00 p.m. and advised that the meeting had been advertised in the Barrie Examiner and Orillia Packet and Times on October 26, 1985 and that the meeting had been moved to the machine shed because of anticipated greater attendance as in 1982. Clerk then called for appointment of a Chairman for the All Candidates Meeting. It was moved by Steve Davie and seconded by Russ Baxter that Henry Neufeld be Chairman for the meeting. The Chairman thanked the meeting for the privilege to chair the meeting for the All Candidates Meeting, if it is considered a privilege. Welcomed all present and as in previous years related attendance over the past 13 years as follows: 1972 103 1973 - 38 1974 - 132 1975 39 1976 - 134 1977 - 23 1978 128 1979 1980 - 1981 1982 - 1983 - 1984 - 1985 43 143 No Ratepayers 260 No Ratepayers No Ratepayers 323 Meeting Meeting Meeting It would appear that about 323 are present here this evening which would indicate that the anticipated attendance has continued. Then advised that Council would not be presenting an activity report but rather that a hand out had been prepared outlining in point form the activities according to Committees and listing the Council Committee Chairman. Approximately 150 copies have been prepared, anyone wishing a copy may request same and a copy will be made available. Pg. 232 Public Meeti - All Candidates Meeti - October 30 1985 The Chairman advised that all candidates present would be heard in alphabetical order for the office for which an Election is to be held. Starting with Public School Board Candidates then Council Candidates. Each Candidate will be given a maximum of 7 minutes~ (preferably 5 minutes) - (a warning sign of one minute will be given at 6 minutes). A question period will follow once all candidates have had the opportunity to address the Ratepayers. All questions to be directed to the chair and it is suggested that question time have a limit of two minutes to allow fair opportunity to all present. No questions should lead into debate. Responded to by Lloyd Fletcher - Carl Cumming and Gail O'Brien Bill Bateman - question to Nick Pollock From your questions do you feel Council members should have pre-conceived answers or open mind? Responded to by Mr. Pollock - numerous meetings held on airport should have been able to make up mind on the matter. Question - Separate School Funding - position of Simcoe County Board of Education on this matter and what affect will this have on the Board? Responded to by Lloyd Fletcher. Allan Blight - directed to Mr. Drury - What is your VIew on Tourism and support for same with respect to Planning & Zoning - do you support? Mike McMurter - Question re: Transfer payments from Province to Simcoe County - Service and Welfare. Integration Social He also asked further questions on matter of tree cutting and brushing of roads - purpose of ditching as explained by Allan Johnson in reply. Andy Nicholson - Why do you feel growth is necessary In the Township and why promote growth? Responded to by several candidates. Gerry Shellswell - Why was third line taken over by County? Does the Township not lose subsidy? Harry Hughes - Province monitors Landfill Site, does the Township do so on their own any surveys? Responded to by Bob Drury and Reeve Davie. Reeve Davie referred to County of Simcoe Survey. Bob Drury - responded further to Allan Blight's concerns regarding Speedway re: overnight camping? Mr. E. Folley Is Oro Council too busy to look into concerns of the people? Meetings regarding major projects. Should have Public Allan Johnson - People do not always show up for public meetings. ie. Recreational Master Plan Public Meeting - only 30-35 people showed up. Chris Dixon - Problem of hunting on private property - firearms control - is this a non-issue?
